Barbara Ateca, Richard Gonzalez and Jim Mullens Support Mary O'Connor for Alderman, 41st Ward

So, it looks like Barbara Ateca and Jim Mullens are supporting Mary O'Connor for Alderman, and are hoping those voters who voted for them on Feb 22, will vote for Mary on April 5, 2011.

Who else is supporting Mary O'Connor and Maurita Gavin this time around?

UPDATE:  Richard Gonzalez supports O'Connor too

  1. O'Connor seems to be gaining momentum

  2. As much as people are trashing O'Connor and Gavin it's too bad Ateca and Mullen weren't smart not to enter the race to begin with. No hard feelings, but we wouldn't be in this situation now. Murphy or Gonzalez could've used Mullen's votes! Mullen I'm sure was a vote of sympathy and Ateca was a waste.

  3. Got a weird phone call about a "survey" for aldermanic candidates that went on to give positive statements about O'Connor and negative ones about Gavin and would ask...how would you vote now if you had to?

    ReplyDelete
  4. Most people I've talked to don't know there is a run off and don't care when I tell them

    ReplyDelete
  5. If they are endorsing those people, why run in the first place?

  6. Noticed the contractors working on Garvy School are all from the suburbs. Don't we have city based plumbing, sprinkler fitter, steel contractors? Also noticed the large load of steel girders delivered this morning..from a suburb. Chicago used to be well known for its steel foundries and many still exist within city boundries today... Lets keep Chicago taxpayer money in Chicago.

  7. Yeah, I got one of those phone calls too. Said Gavin for privitization of assets and specifically said "like the parking meters" and ok for gifts from city employees. Also said Gavin was not for Inspector General overseeing Aldermen. Said Mary for for change and jobs and everything good in life... very slanted "survey"

    ReplyDelete
  8. Irony is Mary and Edison Park Chamber thought parking meeter deal would be good for business and advised vote in favor. Mary said it would create more turnover for businesses. Gavin had nothing to do with it other than who her boss was. Beware people: argument seems to be any thing your boss does you must wear like a scarlett letter the rest of your life. All us firemen, policemen will be responsible when Rham sticks it to us using that logic. He is the boss. Sounds like a real classy lady! I'LL trust the FOP thank you very much!

  9. Interesting that Ateca is now supporting O'Connor after Ateca showed up on election night and gave her support to Gavin at Gavin's celebration. Wonder what O'Connor's camp offered to Ateca???

  10. The reality of the 41st Ward is plain and simple. The race started with 11 candidates. We now have a run-off. I would expect anyone and everyone who cares about the ward including all of the former candidates to jump onboard and vote for one of the 2 remaining candidates. This is still our ward and we should ensure it runs as smoothly as it can with what we have available.

  11. who cares who Barbara Ateca endorses. I was at the debate and she was not impressive.

Jim Mullen never saw him speak in person but it didn't seem like he had his game on.

Im not impressed by either endoresment especially the one from Barbara Ateca.

P.S can someone tell Lapinksi to take his signs down on Touhy at the Walgreens and Auto Body shop!!

  12. I would like to know who is responsible for that survey. Spreading lies like that is disgusting. Gavin has specifically said numerous times that she is against the privatization of assets and city services. Maybe I'll give O'Connor's office a call and get to the bottom of it.

  13. Our State Senator who was the deciding vote to raise our income taxes by 66% and who was appointed by our committeewoman Mary is working hard for Mary. He told us he was not in favor of the income tax increase and would fight for us and eliminate waste. SOUND FAMILIAR. When you are thinking about those extra thousands of dollars that could be going to your kid's college education fund or your retirement fund remember it passed the State Senate by ONE VOTE. Our senate vote (and Mary O'Connor)have been bought and paid for by the Machine. Don't let them buy and lie their way into the Aldermanic seat. And now our State Senator and his side kick are slandering (in their "surveys") the widow of the State Senator's cousin. What kind of people are these and do you really want them representing you? Shame on O'Connor, Mulroe and their whole campaign. Why do we have to pay for their middle age crises? Think about it: Maurita Gavin is the wife of John Mulroe's dead cousin. One of his brothers was best man at Patty Gavin and Maurita's wedding and another of John's brothers was a pall bearer at his funeral. They walk around saying Brian Doherty never did any thing for any one. Hey Dummy: he hired your dead cousin's widow which helped raise your cousin's kids. Oh yeh! that makes them your cousins too so you are also attacking your cousins' mother. For God sake--is it really worth it?

  14. To the moderator's opening question: Gavin's campaign was out this weekend circulating a flyer saying she has endorsements of FOP Lodge 7, Journeymen Plumbers Local 130 UA, IBEW Local 134, Operating Engineers Local 150, Local Union 597 Chicago Pipefitters, Sprinkler Fitters Local 281 UA, Sheet Metal Workers' Local Union 73, Chicago Regional Council of Carpenters, and the "Our Village" paper

    ReplyDelete
  15. The papers have dropped the 41st ward off their radar. Endorsements don't seem to matter since the pulse of 41st ward has main-lined. No one cares who takes over - can you say APATHY?

    ReplyDelete
  16. He never put up the signs on Touhy. They were put up by two bruisers in a beat up work van. I doubt those two are going to take them down, they looked like they could hardly spell.

    ReplyDelete
  17. There you go again with the two candidates that you could have had. Cut that SH_ _ out. Everyone had baggage and the two that you slant toward are no exception. Organizations won plain and simple.

    ReplyDelete
  18. March 7 2:06 summed it up. And that why you need to vote for people not connected to the machine.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I got the survey phone call too, and have to admit, it really swayed me toward O'COnnor. I have been not sure about the candidates until I heard that Gavin was all about services and then contradicts herself by saying she would privatize those services??? It was an eye opener.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I thought Mulroe did the right thing and March 7 2:06 is a drama queen/king and far to dramatic..... grow up

    ReplyDelete
  21. I received a robo call from Richard Gonzalez stating that he is behind O'Connor and mentioned he was a police officer. I get the feeling Mullens and Gonzalez will really sway the cop vote to O'Connor.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Maurita has said in numerous forums that she is against the privatization of city assets...where is the O'Connor camp getting their "facts" from? Or are they just blatant lies?

    ReplyDelete
  23. Most people hang up on robo calls. Waste of time on O'connors part.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Mulroe did the right thing for the state budget...and state workers. Sorry Gavin camp...nothing there move on to ANYTHING OF SUBSTANCE!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  25. To March 7 5:32 and 7:35 Is that why Mary O does not mention our bought and paid for state senator on her web site? You must be joking if you think our pocket book is not "anything of substance." And it is not Gavin Camp--it is a former Mulroe supporter. Mulroe did what he was told and so will O'Connor.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Mulroe beat Doherty...move on Gavin camp. WHATCHA GOT? ANYTHING???????

    ReplyDelete
  27. The smart former aldermanic candidates are staying out of this mess.

    ReplyDelete
  28. To Anonymous 5:29 who said...

It is regrettable that you are the victim of political "dirty tricks". (Or else you are an O'Connor operative.) Gavin does NOT contradict herself. This is the opposition making false accusations.
The robo call you received is full of distortions.

  29. Why would any union local support a Republican candidate? A very weak union local. If I were a member of one of these locals I'd be angry

    ReplyDelete
  30. In the paper today, the CFL Chicago Federation of Labor is not going to endorse anyone in this race. I am IBEW 134 and I'm made as hell our PAC money is going to a Rebublican

    ReplyDelete
  31. How can you say you are "service" oriented and then want privitization of city services? Gavin has some explaining to do...

    ReplyDelete
  32. All of labor needs to unite behind one candidate...and certainly NOT a republican. AFL needs to have a meeting with a few of these locals and explain the political climate and the need to be united.

    ReplyDelete
  33. What speaks volumes is the FOP endorsing a republican and the former candidates who are cops endorsing the democrat...

    ReplyDelete
  34. To: 6:57 A.M. Mulroe spent a $1,000,000.00 of machine money ripping his life long friend who helped the Mulroe family with six years of college scholarships. Though he won the election, Doherty won the 41st ward where people knew them both best. Ah the price of a soul. Can you say welcome to Madiganville? Take your robo lies back to the south side. Answer to 7:21 AM--For Fourty years McAullife Doherty organization have been supporting the unions. Gavin will do the same. Unlike some, they still put family and friends over party and self interest. Smart leadership recognizes the importance of having strong friends in both parites.

    ReplyDelete
  35. To 8:20AM, Gavin does NOT support the privatization of city services as she has made clear in numerous forums and even word for word on her Facebook where someone (I believe the moderator of this blog) asked here "Maurita, would you vote to privatize city services, garbage collection for example?" and Gavin responded "NO! I do not believe that essential city services such as water, electric, sanitation or public safety should be considered for privatization."
Blatant lies are coming out of the O'Connor camp. I hope Gavin addresses this Thursday at Onahan.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Gavin's Facebook page has a posting saying she will not inflict robocalls on us, and will not have her people pretend they are doing a survey when in fact they are campaigning. Does/will O'Connor have anything to say about this issue?

  37. May o'connor is going to need Paula Dean (Ateca) on her side because her food stinks.

  41. "A lie will get half way around the world before the truth has a chance to get its boots on." Mark Twain Here are the candidates in their own words when asked specifically by the Chicago Sun Times about privatiziation. Both gave thoughtful answers and almost could have wrote the others' response. You decide if they are robo calls or robo lies. Mary O'Connor: "As of now I can't think of any other assets the city council should consider privatizing. I propose that the city council have at least 30 days to sufficiently analyze the future privatization of any city asset, including a detailed proposal of how the money would be spent and allocated." In her general comments O'Connor said "I do not support making rash decisions like leasing city assets without analyzing it carefully."
Maurita Gavin's respoonse to question about privatization: "Again I am not totally against privatization, but I am against privatization of essential services such as public safety, water, electric and sanitation. Everything else should be looked at on a case by case basis with the city council being given sufficient time to examine the pros and cons and future ramifications. We need to carefully consider long term benefits or lack thereof. In her general comments Gavin added: "I believe that privatization of our parking meeters is a prime example of a decision made without adequate time to thoroughly investigate the proposal and its future ramifications. We need to learn from that." Seems to me both would be open to the possibility of privatization after careful thought and consideration of the consequences. Kind of what you would hope for from an elected official. Only difference is Gavin specifically ruled out the possibility of privatizing essential servises. I am sure Mary would agree with that if asked. Tell your staff to keep it honest with the robo (calls or lies) Mary or this is going to digress (even more) into some thing really ugly. Some of us are trying to maintain friendships out here. Daid Gaughan (Gavin supporter)
P.S Anonymous (like robo lies) is for wimps and gossips. If you are not willing to put your name on it, don't write it.

  42. gavin is going to win the 41st ward..

    ReplyDelete
  43. gavin is the best choice for the 41st. ward...by far...oconner cant even make good food, let alone be incharge of the biggest ward in the city...

    ReplyDelete
  44. The McAuliffe/Doherty Organization DID NOT always support labor. When the State House went to the Republicans for two years in the mid 1990s, old man McAuliffe, voted in lock step with the republicans on a host of ANTI-UNION legislation, most notably the REPEAL of the SCAFFOLD Act, which gave injured workers additional rights under workman comp laws... SO DON'T TELL ME THEY WERE ALWAYS PRO-UNION - now that is simply NOT TRUE.

    ReplyDelete
  45. O'COnnors got it locked up - most of the people who came out to vote...voted for anyone but Gavin - we will finally be rid of the menace

    ReplyDelete
  46. Went to Marys deli one day. She was put out when I asked her for something on the side. Cant imagine if I asked her for a garbage can!!!

    ReplyDelete
  47. I got a survey call too. It never comes out and tells you who is sponsoring the call. The questions are framed in a very specific way...to cast a very positive light on Oconnor.

    ReplyDelete
  48. I think it just shows the intelligence of most of the residents of the 41st ward if O'Connor actually gets elected. Im totally not surprised when I drive around and see (people I know) who actually has O'Connor signs in their front yard.

She is basing her platform on:

Schools - She has no Kids! how can she be for schools if she has no children period and no kids in CPS. Sorry but if you dont' have kids of your own you'll never understand the importance of education like a parent will

Jobs - Why do we want more jobs in the 41st ward? Restaurant jobs? come on.

Recycling - Way to jump on the band wagon and be green. What a brilliant concept.

Services - Whats wrong with 311? Whats wrong with calling the Alderman office. How often does one actually do this over a course of a year.

More reason I want to sell and get the heck out of this ward and city and move west. I can't stand the intelligent level of people around here

  49. i went to mary oconners party at the emerald isle, and it was horrible, hardly anyone was there, and and she is very rude and self centered...i really hope gavin wins...plus mary oconner is great friends with rahm emanual, and we all no how much we hate him...

  50. I hear there are quite a few skeletons in the Gavin/Doherty closet... soon to come, stay tuned

  51. People are going to vote for a change, because they have been getting nothing for decades - O'Connor has my vote

    ReplyDelete
  52. Word out among the union locals about the phony Gavin endorsements. Union members are NOT happy their dollars are supporting a Republican. I received an email about calling my local to ask WTF...call your local if they are supporting Gavin and ask them what the heck are they thinking

    ReplyDelete
  53. O'Connor's fundraisor was very well attended by many interesting people. Had a great time. It felt like O'Connor was marking the turf having party at the Emerald Isle, the notorius Doherty watering hole for twenty years...

    ReplyDelete
  54. Where the Emerald Isle? Did any fights spill out into the street? Any paramedics beat up?

    ReplyDelete
  55. Had a great time at the Isle last night. Have to say the dems can throw a party...

    No, Brian Doherty wasn't invited.

    ReplyDelete
  57. don't worry, we've got the phones going calling our union brothers and sisters to get the word out about these idiotic locals supporting a republican.

    ReplyDelete
  58. What did these Locals receive in return for their Gavin endorsement? AND what did the union local leadership tell the rank and file? This really reeks. These are all the building trades locals...they are nuts, the dems are going to win and will CRUSH these locals for their lack of support. Very stupid move on these locals part. Rank and file, ask questions now before you are out of work.

    ReplyDelete
  59. You guys do realize that there is hardly a difference between a Republican and a Democrat alderman...correct? Look at Gavin's platform and tell me ANYTHING you see that is anti-union/"Republican". I, for one, am happy my FOP is supporting her.

    ReplyDelete
  60. yeah and the former cop candidates are supporting O'Connor.. FOP is disconnected from reality and the rank and file, big time.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Yes, the difference between the Democrats and Republicans is ideology. Republicans don't much care about workers rights...pick up a paper 10:34am and try to get in touch with the real world.

    ReplyDelete
  62. O'Connor is running scared and that's why her camp is playing these negative campaigning games.
Gavin has nothing to sweat about!!

    ReplyDelete
  63. 11:56, PLEASE read both their platforms and attend the upcoming debates/forums. This is an aldermanic election, not a Senatorial/Presidential one. The partisan difference is negligible.

    ReplyDelete
  64. looks like the Gavin/Doherty camp has someone assigned to this blog

    ReplyDelete
  65. I'm new to the neighborhood and went to Mary O'Connor's event last night and had a good time. Had a chance to talk to Mary and she genuinely wants to improve the ward. From an outsider looking in, this ward needs a major upgrade. It looks like it has been in a state of disrepair and neglect for a long time.

    ReplyDelete
  66. How does this ward look like it is in a state of disrepair? If it needs a major upgrade, why would you move here? I have lived here for 54 years. You have no idea the improvements. (in the last 20 years)

    ReplyDelete
  67. What were they serving, Mary's green-bean casserole or her chicken on the bone that she called a consultant in for? Was there applesauce on the side too?

    ReplyDelete
  68. Hey, has anyone heard from Brock Merck? Is he planning his tea party nomination for president in 2012?

    ReplyDelete
  69. Brock is back...again, and again and again!

    ReplyDelete
  70. Only improvement the ward needs is roads. The roads are awful. Pot holes everwhere.

    ReplyDelete
  71. After seeing what Wisconsin workers are going through, how can any union local support a Republican at any level of goverment? You are voting against your own interest. Makes no sense.
