Or you can toss them in your black Chicago garbage bin for free!

  2. I am going to bring all 20 or so of my O'Connor mailings that have littered my mailbox over the past few weeks!

  3. I wish we would have more recycling events in the ward. I will be by.

  4. I wonder if they need help? My high schooler needs community service hours....

  5. 4:05pm - so your the fool who has been doing that!

  6. Maybe Alderman Doherty will stop by if he isn't to busy with his new paper route, the 41st Ward News, published by Chicago Residents for Ethical Government, the delusional support group he made up with the help of his secretary, Maurita Gavin.

  7. We should have a recycling program like all of the surrounding suburbs. I bring my recycling to my aunt's house in Park Ridge. She has weekly recycling pick-up.

  8. To 5:31, why bring it to Park Ridge? There is a recycling bin at the Devon/Milwaukee forest preserves.

  9. Sponsored by friends for O'Connor and paid for by the SEIU. Buying your alderman now to increase your property taxes later. That's what they did with the State Senate race.

  11. Maybe the next alderman will hold monthly recycling events until the 41st Ward can get on board with the city of Chicago's curbside recycling project. I like creative ideas, like this recycling event...in the absence of what should have been in place years ago...

  12. ....and if the next Alderman wants a ward recycling committee put in place, I will participate. I will assume we will be able to sign up on the NEW ward website?

  13. to 6:59 - Park ridge is two blocks away and they have curbside weekly recycling.

  14. Why would you pay $10 to get rid of an electronic item. No one is going to recycle if it costs money to actually recycle.

  15. Readers,
Have received a few comments asking more about electronic recycling and what it entails. Electronic recycling, if done properly, is expensive...procedures are put in place so workers who disassemble electronics are not exposed to toxic heavy metals, etc. For more information about "Electronics Recycling Disassembly Process", check out www.werecycle.com and take a look at the schematic provided to illistrate the entire process...

  16. Free electronics recycling from the City of Chicago; right off the Kennedy and service is great. You drive up and they take the items from your car.

  17. Chicago Coalition for Recycling does electronics for nothing, makes money and donates it to worthy causes like the Seira Club and fighting Domestic Violence. The whole idea is refurbish and use the item again. That is why some pay you and some can do it to benefit charity.

  18. Readers,

I have received a number of questions and comments about the Chicago Recycling Coalition's electronics recycling services. Just so we are all receiving accurate information, I have sent a message to the CRC to post information directly to this post. Hopefully, will hear from them soon.

  19. Chicago Coalition for Recycling has a web site that is very infromative. Why not let the citizens know that. I'm sure every one here knows what a web site is. Good opportunity to let people who truly care about the environment (and charity) know about a great organization. Unless of course this is strictly a political ploy.

  20. Just google Chicago Recycling Coalition and check out their web site. Very informative for every one and some thing we can all agree on regardless of politics.

  21. will be there - have lots of stuff

  22. The city of chicago drop off center on Branch is right off the Kennedy at North Ave, but it has very limited hours of operation. Make sure you check the website for the hours of operation.

  23. Went to this morning's recycling event. I brought in an old TV and some stuff to be shred. Pleasant people, fairly crowded. While I was waiting in line a few people commented that local businesses should sponsor recycling events around the ward until we receive recycling services from the city. Also, people wondering why we don't have curb side recycling now....

  24. I brought in an old monitor about 10:20 and there were a couple dozen foot soldiers meeting in the lot getting ready to canvas the precincts. Quite a large operaton - organized too.

  25. positive, pro-active way to give back to the community - good idea

  26. This blog is a O'Connor run joke. Mary sucks! Post that _________!

  27. I was very glad to be able to bring all my recyclables in last Saturday- people should be grateful that this opportunity existed, and stop worrying about the supposed underlying motives. Norwood Park has a recycling dumpster right by the pool area but it is used by so many people that the dumpster fills up right away.
