A blog for people who live in the 41st Ward, Chicago, Illinois. The 41st Ward includes Oriole Park, Norwood Park, Edison Park, Wildwood, Edgebrook, Big Oaks and O'Hare communities.
Cops don't vote, so who cares what the FOP thinks. Two former cop candidates are supporting O'Connor, anyway.
As for the other union locals, I understand they are receiving flack from members for supporting a republican. What has doherty/gavin ever done for them...might be a good question to ask.
Union Blogger here: Mulroe saved state employee union jobs. We don't have a Wsiconsin situation here because we have genuine pro-union legislators like Mulroe.
According to Gavin at the forum yesterday, her late husband was a member of the union and Gavin has based a lot of her stances off that. Maybe that has something to do with the union endorsements of her?
Union Blogger here: Any union local supporting a republican is out of their mind. Like shooting self in foot. Ask Wisc union bro/sis who got burned by Walker.
Union blogger here: I'll trust the FOP and almost every trade union over some one that thinks by calling himself/ herself union blogger, he speaks for unions.
Unless Gavin makes a declarative statement condeming and disowning the republican party once and for all, then her claim of being a pro-labor candidate simply lacks credibility.
In 1980, Ronald Reagan, then presidential candidate won the endorsement of the Professional Air Traffic Controllers, PATCO(many members lived in the 41st), and about one year later Reagan turned around and fired them - ALL OF THEM.
Does Gavin support card check recognition? How about a living wage ordinance? I doubt it. Not written on her website..maybe I shoud ask the Gavin fact checker
To 7:31, according to their Chicago Tribune interviews, both Gavin and O'Connor support a living wage ordinance. Source: http://elections.chicagotribune.com/editorial/mary-oconnor/ and http://elections.chicagotribune.com/editorial/maurita-e-gavin/
FOP and too many trade unions to count endorse Gavin. CFF local 2 Pesident's wife works for Mary's campaign. I wonder why they endorsed Mary? I also found it interesting yesterday at NWS Saint Patrick day parade that Mary had a non-union plumbing contractor driving his truck with her very sparse group. Also interesting that she marched as far as she could from the 2/3 income tax increase man. She can run but can't hide April 5.
I think CFF Local 2 endorsed Mary because if memory serves, one of the CFF paramedics got punched out by Alderman Doherty when they were trying to render medical attention after he fell while drunk.
To 7:47AM the Chicago Sergeants Association is a Union. Research b4 you write. Makes you look bad. Its like saying the Fraternal Order of Police (FOP)is a fraternity.
We have received more union endorsements. Given what has happened in Wisconsin we are proud to stand with The Chicago Teacher's Union, Teamsters Local 734, Teamsters Joint Council 25 and AFSCME.
There is nothing that Gavin has said throughout the campaign that would lead us to believe that she is anything like the Republicans in Wisconsin. She is very pro-union and pro-working/middle class, hence her numerous endorsements.
good to see
ReplyDeleteF O P and pretty much every Trade Unoion with Gavin. Choice seems pretty obvious.
ReplyDeleteCops don't vote, so who cares what the FOP thinks. Two former cop candidates are supporting O'Connor, anyway.

To 2:05 p.m: maybe they are P.O ed that Mulroe (O'Connor's hand picked boy) raised their income taxes by 2/3.

ReplyDeleteThe CFL seems to be unaware of Gavins committment to union workers, and I hear the CFL is non to pleased with a few of the locals.
ReplyDeleteThis race is getting more boring every second

ReplyDeleteI trust the real union blogger more than I would the FOP and trader locals
ReplyDeleteCongratulations, Mary. I wish you the best.
ReplyDeleteTime for a History Lesson:

Just got back from dinner and drinks with a bunch of fellow retired firemen. Laughing and crying about how union endorsed Rahm's little girling.
ReplyDeleteat least CFD local 2 doesn't support republicans - they did the right thing
ReplyDeleteCFF Local #2 extending the olive branch to Rahm via O'Connor. Smart move. FOP blew the 41st Ward endorsement
ReplyDeleteGo Union Blogger!

ReplyDeleteThe Chicago Police Sergeants Union endorses O'Connor!
ReplyDeleteTo 7:34 AM: It is not a union. It is an "association." FOP only union for police and it endorses Gavin.
ReplyDeleteChicago Police Sergeants Association collectively bargains for its members...so it is most certainly a UNION.
ReplyDeleteFOP endorsement coming from south side FOP officers. Since when do we allow south siders to tell us who to vote for. Screw them.
No one listens to the FOP, including its own members.
