  1. Ugh, more disappointment from both candidates. I do have quite a few questions for O'Connor though...but I can't seem to get a hold of her campaign office through phone or e-mail.
There were also a lot of rude members of the audience making comments/being disruptive while the candidates were talking--depending on who they were in favor of.

  2. 8:24 is totally correct. On both points.
I also get no response from email requests from O'Connor; and the audience was really rude to BOTH candidates and to the moderator.

  3. Agree. The moderator lost control of his meeting and let people play mister microfone.

  4. Both sides should leave the cheer leaders at home. I can't get any responses from Oconnor camp either. It's like they are getting all this money from out side the ward for their campaign so they won't answer the voters questions directly.

  5. I've been watching this race closely, going to all the forums, etc..

    Gavin seems kind of desperate.

I've noticed of lately that whenever she's asked to introduce herself or outline her qualifications, she uses it as an opportunity to say something negative about O'Connor.

I'm sure there's plenty of valid criticism about O'Connor, but it just sounds so petty coming from Gavin.

  6. I received Mary O'Connor's mailing today with the Tribune and Sun-Times endorsement, no wonder both newspapers are in a world of trouble.

  7. I voted for one of the other candidates on Feb. 22 so I came into this kind of open to both candidates. However, I have been leaning more and more towards Gavin during the last few weeks.
I do not really like either of their answers to most questions but O'Connor's are slightly worse. One example: when, at this recent Norwood forum, people asked about their sewers/flooding problems, the candidates gave two very different answers. Gavin recited some city ordinances and explained how it is tough to do anything (ugh) but O'Connor said she would personally come out and look at the problem--like she is some kind of expert on sewers or something? I think Gavin has a better idea of the realities and how to navigate the beauracratic red tape to get things done.
Another thing I do not like about O'Connor is how she always has in her closing something about "Are you as a person and are your property values better off now than they were 5 years ago?". Well, NO MARY, they aren't! Are anyone's? We are in a recession/depression. Are you going to lead the 41st Ward out of this recession and all our problems will go away under you?
And finally, one thing I noticed, the first question of the night asked about who their biggest contributers were and what their stances were on taxes. Maurita answered her son ($5000), Fraternal Order of Police ($1000) and a law firm a friend runs ($1000) and then said they had no partisan leanings so no real stances on taxes. Mary, however, said SEIU ($15,000!!), John Mulroe (I think $3000), and numerous $1000 donations. But she conveniently left out the second part of the question regarding taxes/partisan leanings. She accuses Gavin of a second coming of Doherty and a continuation of his policies because he has endorsed her...however, she denies that she is in favor of a tax increse despite being endorsed/financially supported by a group that is in favor of it and a State Senator who voted for it.
These are just some thoughts I have been mulling around in my mind since last night.
