  1. Chicago Tonight decided to run the 25th Ward Interview tonight. I wonder why they decided to hold off on the 41st ward interview?

  2. Didn't like Gavin's opening attack - even the moderator diverted the discussion after stating Gavins statements related to her campaign and not the ward and city issues. Good job, moderator, because all I have seen and heard is this petty nonsense being overblown by Gavin because she has nothing else to offer.

  3. Gavin- thumbs down. O'connor - I could see her in city council.

  4. When Ponce asked Gavin how she is qualified - SHE NEVER ASWERED. She couldn't state one objective qualification. She went right into the attack. Looked terrible.

But what could she say - I've been a secretary to the alderman for 15 years?

  5. Gavin said she was proud of the service she has provided: what service - everyone has been complaining about no contact with ward residents for years, NO SERVICE WEBSITE, no public forums, one office THAT isn't mobile.

    Give me a break.

  6. well, that was aweful.

  7. I received an email with much detailed information that was not mentioned during Chicago Politics interview tonight.

If the writer of this comment wants detailed info published here, he/she needs to sign in with a name, url and email.

  8. I agree with the moderator - Gavin's comments were more about her than the issues. I'm glad he diverted her to the issues voters care about.

  9. Lets stick to the issues. What little time is left should be used to articulate the issues and not themselves ( Gavin esp)

  10. Who is giving Gavin campaign advice? Terrible approach to a TV interview.

  11. OMG !!!!!!
IF ANYONE SAW CHANNEL 11 TONIGHT, GAVIN WAS A JOKE! THE VERY FIRST QUESTION WAS, WHAT ARE YOUR QUALIFICATIONS? MARY O'CONNER GAVE A VERY DISCRIPT DEFINITION OF WHAT MAKES HER THE BEST CANDIDATE WITH GREAT DETAIL. THEN GAVIN SAYS HER QUALIFICATIONS ARE; "INTEGRITY AND CHARACTER" AND THEN PROCEEDED ON TO ATTACK MARY O'CONNER ON ALL COUNTS WITH LIES! SHE NEVER ONCE GAVE ANY QUALIFICATIONS THAT WOULD MAKE HER A GOOD CHOICE. I WONDER IF SHE REALIZES THAT INTEGRITY AND CHARACTER ARE ATTRIBUTED TO YOU NOT ASSUMED BY YOU? OH GAVIN YOU CAME ACROSS SO POORLY. MAYBE IT IS JUST DESPERATION

  12. Is your caps lock key broken or are you just yelling that entire diatribe?

  13. I haven't been in the loop and haven't gone to forums. Is this all there is?

    ReplyDelete
  14. McAuliffe should have run.

    ReplyDelete
  15. I agree that the Republicans should have thought this race through, especially coming off a significant loss with Doherty just a few months ago. McAuliffe would have been a good choice - he has the name recognition and reputation.

  16. Stick to the issues and the constiuent concerns,

    Signed,

A voter who doesn't give a rip about campaign squabbles.

  17. I agree with 9:18pm.

If a major local news show is giving you 10 minutes of free air time, spend the time telling the audience why they should vote for you.

Why would you spend your time pointing your finger at your opponent? The audience doesn't care about campaign baggage. Makes you look like you got nothing better to talk about.

Roll of the dice, taking that sort of strategy to a prime time news talk show. Local forums are one thing, TV exposure is another. If I were Gavin, I would seek advise from a seasoned political campaign advisor.

Ponce cut Gavin off for a reason.

  18. The axelrod wanabees are all over this blog.

  19. I rolled off the couch laughing to hear Gavin describe herself as having integrity and character.

I agree, those are attributes that others are suppose to assign to you, not for you to assign yourself.

To quote a famous line from the movie, "Pulp Fiction" - "Just because you are a character doesn't mean you have character".

  20. We weren't treated to the "Gavin" side of things last night because Gavin campaign and supporters were at the Snuggery last night, fundraising, in case anyone is wondering.

  21. Doherty: "Maurita, when did the 41st develop a spider problem? Why is everyone talking about webs?"

Maurita: "I don't know, Brian, I'll call the City of Chicago exterminator to get rid of them"

    ReplyDelete
  22. hahahaha...no wonder there isn't a 41st ward website. The City of Chicago exterminator took care of eliminating all of them. Now things make sense.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I have to say that was painful to watch. If it were me preparing for that interview I would have asked myself... What will be my most important response? What should I make sure to have roll right off my tongue crisply and intelligently? The answer is OBVIOUS! What are your qualifications? Forget coaching or politcal advisors - this comes from basic professionalism. I almost feel sorry for her.

    ReplyDelete
  24. The City of Chicago does not have a pest control division, lol. Someone tell Maurita.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Actually I was more impressed with Gavin than O'connor.

O'connor kept talking about how there is no website. Why exactly do we need a ward website? 311 is for city services. Why is a ward website SO important? I personally like the personlized service of calling the ward office

By the way the make up store called, they are out of cheap mascara.

  26. Someone needs to call the postal authorities.

My mailbox has been littered again with a flyer labeled "41st Ward Neighborhood News" with the exact same words, last weeks flyer from the phoney made up group "Chicago Citizens for Ethical Government" put out by Gavin and Doherty.

Gavin has to stop this nonsense. This voter isn't interested in her slimy campaign. Knock it off, it isn't working for you.

  27. the 41st ward needs real leadership. This race just re-enforces the need for city council to be smaller, starting with merging the 41st with the 45th. This race just stinks

    ReplyDelete
  28. Just watched the video link - this is majorly embarrassing. Why can't the 41st find decent candidates? Awful representation of who we are.

    ReplyDelete
  29. 1:59pm - some of us are living in the 21st century and can navigate a wesite.

Almost every other ward has had a website for years to order services, post how the alderman votes on issues, budgets, announcements, city services, new projects etc.

Gavin/Doherty made it as hard as possible and inaccessible to receive information. We have no connection to municipal government.

IT IS CALLED COMMUNICATING WITH THE WARD.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Anyone try to find Chicago Citizens for Ethical Government on the web? No web site, no contact info, no way of communicating . . . mmmm sounds like a Doherty caper.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I just watched the video, and I think there is much to be concerned about here.

How are you qualified for the position of alderman? Gavin replies - integrity & character and rips into her opponent - not much intergrity and character in that move.

And, I have integrity and character. Would that make me a good alderman? Hell no. A good alderman needs leadership ability, management experience, and a host of other types of experiences in my opinion.

    ReplyDelete
  32. While I agree that the citizens for ethical reform or whatever, is outrageous, what about the fact that Mary O'Connor actually did register incorrectly and lied about it? What about the fact that she stated that $700,000.00 was sent back to the city, and then the following day said it was $300,000.00? That is a huge discrepency for someone that has owned a business for 20 years. What about the fact that within the interview she claimed to budget a million dollar budget, and within minutes claimed it was a multi-million dollar budget? As a democrat I am dissappointed that Mary O'Connor is our representation for 41. Maybe we can find someone for 2015 that is not so questionable.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Gavin's got no credentials or qualifications - she tries to divert everyone with her slimy accusations and negative campaigning. DOn't fall for it. If all Gavin has to run on is an alleged service record, we are all doomed.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I received Alderman O'Connor's first mailing of a newsletter yesterday. It was pleasing to look at, but didn't really say much - just a few announcements. No meat and no mention of some of the more challenging issues.

What I thought was hysterical was the name of the newsletter "The 41st Ward News". Wasn't that the name of the newsletter Dougherty was hand delivering to residents during the O'Connor/Gavin aldermanic election?

  35. Hopefully the City of Chicago has learned its lesson in the issuance of long term contracts after the parking meter fiasco and lease of the Chicago Skyway. Now the mayor intends to contract with an out of state advertising agency for the right to build advertising billboards on public property. This same organization has contributed to the mayor’s campaign fund. There is definitively a conflict of interest in this no bid proposal. The beauty of our city will be eroded by the placement of billboards with questionable advertising matter along public ways. The City Council should reject this proposal and act in the interest of the public and not worry about gaining favor with the administration.
