Deep-Pocketed PAC Makes New Endorsements / Chicago News Cooperative
Working with Rahm and his agenda is what we have to do - it is the practical thing to do. We need a new high school, lots of infastructure and business expansion, and community development.
This ward can't continue unless the Mayor will work with us, and if O'Connor can do that I will vote for her.
Will the former alderman's secretary be able to launch a solo war against Rahm - I sincerely doubt it, especially when her campaign literature contains nothing but puppy dogs.
I don't know how this can be a surprise to anyone. Look at the campaign contributions O'Connor has got vs. those for Gavin(post in campaign contributions thread).
If you want an Alderman who is fully beholden to the Democratic Party and all that it stands for, across the city and across the state, your choice is clear. Then watch what happens to property taxes, police redeployment, etc.
It's one thing to work with Mayor Elect Emmanuel on structuring reforms in a way that make sense for the Ward. It's another to just take marching orders from a partisan organization.
Has anyone actually seen this famous puppy dog ad? I've gotten a lot of stuff from Gavin, but nothing with animals. Did Gonzales or another candidate run that?
NO LONGER UNDECIDED: For a better Chicago is Rham's pac. He just bought O'Connor if she wins. You can't work with some one when they own you. The city needs a legitimate legislative body. If Rham buys the council we will go from a dictator to a tyrant. What does 11:36 A.M think Rambo is going to hold hands and sing kumbia. It starts with Robo lies and moves to more transfer of wealth from the hard working people of 41. I hear O'Connor's market is now serving dead fish.
Until recently, all the money raised by For a Better Chicago PAC had come from a 501(c)(4) organization also called For A Better Chicago, meaning the donors were impossible to track.
But in a February 1 filing with the State Board of Elections, the For a Better Chicago PAC showed a contribution of $10,000 from David Herro, an investment manager at Harris Associates, LP.
Herro was a major player in the 2007 city council races, throwing significant cash at aldermanic candidates supportive of building Wal-Marts.
He told the Chicago Tribune that he opposed union-backed proposals to create a living wage for big box stores.
I think both candidates are weak. The stronger of the weak is the candidate who realizes that she will need to get along with all the players including Rahm.
This ward can not stand another four years of being neglected. And I agree we need business and community development so the property value in the ward can be competative.
Time to connect the dots. Rham purchased O'Connor. I want some one who will stand up for 41 and work with the new Mayor. I don't want some one who Rahm knows he has in his hip pocket. 41 is a WONDERFUL neighborhood that I have called home for over 30 years. JUST LET ME ADD ONE MORE THING. WE'RE ALL VOTERS AND WE NEED THIS MEESLY ONE HORSE INSTITUTION SO PEOPLE HAVE A PLACE TO GO WITHOUT CRAWLING TO POTTER. Change Potter to machine and Rham and you get the idea.
I have sent 3 e-mails to the O'Connor campaign office regarding the auto-survey that was going around. All of them were very polite and respectful. It has been over a week and none have been responded to. What is it with both these candidates where they just can NOT respond to constituents?!
Gavin is a republican turned "independent" for this race and still takes Republican party money. I don't see why O'Connor can't take money from dem backed organizations. What's the big deal?
We need to eliminate the money to sort it all out.
Chicago has an opportunity (for the first time in over 20 years) of trying some thing called democracy. Rham just took one more step in denying us that opportunity. We will continue to live in one of the most corrupt cities in one of the most corrupt counties in one of the most corrupt states in the country. This Murphey supporter just switched from O'Connor to Gavin. Going to early vote this afternoon.
to 2:20 pm: Are you sure you live in the ward. Every one I talk to tells me they live in the best ward in the city. And so did O'Connor until recently. The biggest complaint I hear is we are taxed too much. Only thing we got since she got involved in politics is a 66% income tax increase. Don't sell another office fellow voters.
Rahm was elected mayor by the majority in the city. Nothing can change that now.
Our decision in the 41st Ward is to discern who will best represent this ward in city council.
How the alderman conducts herself and her relationship on the council and the mayor will be critical in regards to what services and amenities will be allocated to the Ward.
Conduct her self on the council...she just sold us out for the seat. I hear from reliable source that Gavin and both candidates in 45 told him thanks but no thanks.
I've been out of the country and returned to hear about this race. Clarify for me:
So, Doherty's "undercover, covert" independent administrative assistant wants Republican Alderman Doherty's spot on the City Council. Funny. Of all the people Doherty could have hired to not answer the phone all these years, he picks a pro-union, up to last week republican, now independent, that is telling everyone she is nothing like Doherty.
Call me crazy but I believe Gavin when she says she is independent. Just because she has worked for Doherty does not make her a Republican. She has said in previous forums that she has voted in previous Democratic primaries as recently as 2008.
5:51 P.M. You have been sitting by the fire place at O'Connors market. Spin, spin spin won't get you elected in 41. This Chicago fire man was going with his union until Rham stepped in.
Seems like a lot of money from OUTSIDE Chicago is backing O'Connor. She will be beholden to many outside the Ward, for certain.
ReplyDeleteThe Trib has stated that Rahm is "showering money on aldermanic candidates whose support Emanuel needs to push his AGENDA."
Chicago Tribune, March 3, 2011 article entitled,

Aligned with mayor-elect, pro-business group spends big in City Council

Good friend says that a Mary O'Connor campaign telephone call originated in VIRGINA.

Time to Connect some Dots:
ReplyDeleteRahm picked up the phone, called the feds and just got us $117 Million dollars to continue the airport expansion deal.
The irony is that the trade unions that endorsed Gavin will reap those benefits by their members being put to work at the airport on that project.
We need to work with Rahm, and if we need to do it through O'Connor, so be it.

Trailers for sale or rent,
ReplyDeleteRooms to let 50 cents,
How much did O'Connor get,
when she sold out on a bet,
she wants to be king of the road.
