  2. I guess the signs do work.

About where I expected for Quinn and Ateca. Little shocked Lapinski pulled that many votes but I guess that is the Fireman votes in the ward.

I guess it's time to get behind Gavin.

    ReplyDelete
  3. Lapinski was a surpize, but many firefighters live here and he drew their votes from O'Connor. No way will firefighters vote Gavin after Doherty assaulted one of their own.

    ReplyDelete
  4. Gavin will pick up Quinn's and Merck's Republican votes. The majority of the other candidates' votes will go to O'Connor - Gonzalez, Mullens, Ateca, Lapinski .. O'Connor will win the run off.

    ReplyDelete
  5. Congratulations to Maurita Gavin and Mary O'Connor.

Should be interesting to see what happens. Personally, I'm staying neutral. I have to see how each candidate evolves... over the next few week.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Wise words and wise sentiment! Let's all see how each candidate evolves.

    ReplyDelete
  7. It shall be interesting. Very impressed with how Murphey polled. Gavin will (and deservedly so) win the run off. Many Lapinski voters have already pledged to vote for Gavin. Gonzalez and Murphey voters will most likely split. Mullen, Merck, and Ateca should all go for Gavin. (Ateca was at Gavin's victory party tonight and pledged her utmost support for Gavin--as I am sure a few other candidates will in the upcoming weeks).
I am very much looking forward to the debates in the next 6 weeks. Let's just hope it stays clean and the real issues are addressed! (Murphey 2015!!)

  8. The last comment written by the Gavin group, no doubt.

What happened yesterday, happened out of apathy. Only 53% of the Ward bothered to vote, and of those, only half wanted Gavin or O'Connor. WHich means 25% or so of the Ward voters wanted these two candidates. Very sad.

Of those, Gavin only got 12% of the Ward to support her.

I seriously doubt Lapiniski voters are going to vote for Gavin.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Both are weak political hacks.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Rahm is going to run the city, these two will be insignificant.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Gavin isn't going to pull support from anyone. The people voting for all these candidates, including O'Connor, were voting for change.

    ReplyDelete
  12. I agree Rahm will run the city, including the City Council. These two will make no difference at all. Rahm's first move will be to de-power Burke. He will throw his power and money behind run-off candidates who wil do what he wants. In the case of this ward, he will most likely back O'Connor.

If I were a candidate who lost last night in the 41st, I would not support either candidate...go on vacation and/or say nothing, especially if you want to run again in the future.

    ReplyDelete
  13. O'Connor and Gavin will never be able to stand up to Rahm. Rahm is sure gonna use his "get your tampons out" as quoted from the newspaper. Oh wait! I don't that will apply here."get your Nazi pads out" 41st Ward say bye-bye to your suburban type neighborhood.

    ReplyDelete
  14. The people who did vote yesterday, for the most part, voted for change.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Who were the clowns that voted for Merck? This guy is a goof ball. I guess the 41st ward really feels that a catering business owner can run the ward. She'll ask Rahm, "what kind of sandwich would you like today Rahmy?

    ReplyDelete
  16. City Hall will have all the power from now on. Doesn't matter which of these two win (the caterer or the puppy candidate). Everyone will go over their heads and talk to Rahm, or Rahm staffers, about any major development or service change. Rahm is going to make the decision, to move forward with the O'Hare Expansion project. He knows no one from the 41st ward is strong enough to oppose him. Our exposure to the increased noise and pollution will not matter in that decision.

    ReplyDelete
  17. I think the coppers might be ok with Rahm. He is getting rid of Jody and putting 1000 more coppers on the street - both key issues for them. Coppers are going to go with O'Connor.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Voter turnout in the 41st was pathetic

    ReplyDelete
  19. We voted in a wolf mayor and two sheep run off aldermanic candidates. We are so screwed.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I'm not going to bother to vote in April - will make no differnece, both of these candidates will be useless.

    ReplyDelete
  21. There were three cops and one fireman in this race. If we could have backed one candidate to represent both the CFD and CPD we would have won a run-off space, maybe even the race.

THERE IS NO POLITICAL ORGANIZATION IN THE 41ST WARD representing the interests of the city workers.

This blog represent the most political voice I have seen in 22 years living here. No offense blog person, but that is pathetic. Someone think smart and organize the 41st ward.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I really though Gonzalez would be in a run-off. Not sure what happened there. To many candidates, I suppose.

    ReplyDelete
  23. 45th Ward CPD Garrido is in a run-off and will probably win.

I agree Donahoe and Ryan should of had a sit down to get behind one candidate

    ReplyDelete
  24. We are Rahmulins now

    ReplyDelete
  25. So, 25% of the registered voters voted for these run off candidates? That is pathetic

    ReplyDelete
  26. what debates? Nothing -vs- Nothing. Move along, or better yet, move out.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Like Kass said: "I don't want to hear it".

    ReplyDelete
  28. hmmm.. Pickle pusher -vs- the puppy dog candidate. I gotta think.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Gavin knows a run off is the same as a loss, but will go through the motions.

    ReplyDelete
  30. There should be black bunting thrown up around the 41st ward today.

    ReplyDelete
  31. This comment has been removed by a blog administrator.

  32. What a Train Wreck! I have major problems with the results. Its just shows it is clearly a popularity contest especially with the "Deli Woman's" lead.

Gonzalez and Murphey were clearly the most qualified candidates that ran and they came in 3 & 4. It just shows how completely ignorant the voters in our ward are. They voted for someone who makes sandwiches instead of actual qualified candidates.

    ReplyDelete
  33. If either of the 2 run off candidates wants my vote, I will need to be paid. No way will I waste my time voting in the April election.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I'd rather have Status Quo with Gavin who will be a FULL TIME Alderman than O'connor who will juggle learning the ropes while running a Deli.

Its not organizing a 5K Turkey Trot! While a noble task, that makes O'connor no more qualified to assume this position.

    ReplyDelete
  35. The commentator at 10:51am said it best. The choice for alderman is between the current committeewoman who will continue both with that position and with her business, or Gavin, who will be a FULL time Alderman and who has 15 years of ward experience with the people and issues of the 41st.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Part-time clueless or full time clueless, what difference will it make? O'Connor did say she would be a full time alderman. Nice try Gavin group. You will have to come up with something better than Gavin sits in an office all day. What else does Gavin do?

    ReplyDelete
  37. 41% voter turnout. What a mess.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Does O'connor have children that are in CPS or went to CPS's?

    ReplyDelete
  39. I'm mad and getting madder. I could run this ward better than these two choices. There should be some sort of minimum requirement for the job.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Genghis Rahm is ordering a forensic audit. I wonder if the public will ever see the real audit report. Accountants were most likely told to compile two audit reports, one for Rahm to see and one for us to see.

    ReplyDelete
  41. LOL "pickle pusher and the puppy dog candidate" should be appointed, Food Sanitation Inspector and Dog Catcher.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I agree with the commentator who mentioned the lack of coordination between the CPD and CFD unions. We could of elected a real alderman yesterday, if they got it together.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I will have to attend any debates between these two and see if either of them is worth coming out to vote for on April 5.
In the forums, Gavin was usually my 3rd favorite (behind Gonzalez and Murphey) while O'Connor was always disappointing and lacking of any substance. We'll see how they both evolve in the coming weeks.

    ReplyDelete
  44. The sheep had now been lead. Anyone with a negative comment should get off their ass and run themself. If you don't have the fortitude, back the candidate of your choice 3 hours a day walking the ward. The vote was won in this election on ground workers, not the internet.

    ReplyDelete
  45. To all my friends and family who did not vote in this election - you are all off my Christmas card list and don't bother asking me to help you move anymore - we are over.

    ReplyDelete
  46. The vote was won by apathy is what people are saying here.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Please encourage your neighbors and family to vote in the April run-off. Yesterday's turnout was pathetic. You forfeit your right to complain, if you don't vote.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Gavin won by being elected by 12% of all registered voters in the ward. O'Connor won by being elected by another 13% of the voters.
THAT IS NO WIN - THAT IS A GIFT.

And it certainly was NOT won by ground workers. It was won by APATHY

    ReplyDelete
  49. I second what was said at 2:47. These may not be the 2 candidates we all wanted, but this is still the future of our ward. Go out to the debates, listen to the issues, and stay involved. Let's make the right choice on April 5th.

    ReplyDelete
  50. I, too, agree that it is important to stay involved and push for greater participitory governance via public meetings, advisory committees and other citizen action forums.

Give these two candidates a chance to show us what they can offer in regards to the issues.

    ReplyDelete
  51. FYI. The race was won by ground workers. I support a candidate not in the top two. My candidate spoke to the issues at the debates. He/she did not have 50 workers walking the ward attaching signs and drumming up support. We lost.. suck it up. Move on.

    ReplyDelete
  52. I think voters who voted yesterday could except the election results better if there had been 75% participation or higher like the 17th Ward. But 50% means half the ward doesn't care and is what is fundamentally wrong with the results of this race.

    ReplyDelete
  53. And no confidence in the two run-off candidates

    ReplyDelete
  54. DeLeo is connected/close to Rahm. DeLeo gave up his seat to Mulroe. Mulroe and O'Connor are both 41st Ward Dems.... connect them dots. Gavin doesn't have a prayer.

    ReplyDelete
  55. But, Doherty beat Mulroe in the 41st Ward in the election back in November. I think it was 54%-46%. This race will be very, very close.

    ReplyDelete
  56. It's called the "combine". It doesn't matter if the Democrat or RINO win. We're done.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Other way around. Mulroe beat Doherty. Tip your hat if you see Mulroe in the neighborhood for voting YES to the state income tax raise. That's what you get for electing a Democrat.

We need to keep this ward Republican

    ReplyDelete
  58. Is it possible that today, in a community like the 41st ward, we have soooo many disinterested party functionaries? Voters who will vote party first and foremost? I guess so. Sure fooled me. I geninely thought the internet and this blog would deliver a more intelligent and sophisticated electorate to the polls. Instead we got a bunch of Palooka's(a dumb but honest boxer.read: dumb but honest electorate) doing the party's wishes. Sure does dumb down the 41st.
    (I agree: Murphey 2015)

    ReplyDelete
  59. Oh! And on another aspect of this fiasco. I want to thank Merck, Quinn, Ateca, Schamne and Banna for so fragmenting(splitting)the vote that the two most qualified Gonzales and Murphey did not make the runoffs. We really lost a golden opportunity to bring improv ements to the 41st ward. This chance may never come again.

    ReplyDelete
  60. We don't need more of the same.

And as for Mulroe, he did the right thing. He made a tough choice based on the need rather than his poltitical career. We need to pay for state workers benefits and pensions, and the state has been working very hard to trim budget fat

    ReplyDelete
  61. I would like to thank all of the residents of the 41st Ward for allowing me the opportunity to represent you as a candidate for alderman. I would also like to take a minute to congratulate Mary O'Connor and Maurita Gavin on their well ran campaign. For those of you who supported me, I tried hard not to let you down, but sometimes its just not in the cards. For all the other candidates I wish them well and I trust the 41st Ward will be the best ward in the city of Chicago

    ReplyDelete
  62. To 11:52, yes, Mulroe beat Doherty in the overall election. The 10th district includes neighboring wards and parts of some suburbs. However, if you look on the Chicago Board of Elections website, Doherty beat Mulroe in this ward 54%-46% which, in my opinion, is a good sign for Gavin.

    ReplyDelete
  63. I would just like to echo Mr. Gonzalez's comments and thank everyone who followed this aldermanic race in person at the forums, through this site, other locations on the internet or by talking to myself and the other 10 candidates. All of us are fortunate that so many residents cared enough to share their opinions and goals.

I aimed to run a campaign that focused on the issues our ward and city face and to talk about realistic solutions to keep our community one in which we will want to continue raising our families. I appreciate the positive and constructive feedback from all of you and I tried to use your input to help shape my discussions about our neighborhoods and the changes that could be made in them.

Hopefully, everyone will stay as passionate as they sounded during this campaign about our ward and city and will work with our new alderman on improvements to both.

I wish Maurita and Mary lots of luck in the coming weeks and thank you all again for taking the time to listen to what I had to say in this race.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Mr. Gonzalez you are a class act, and I hope you stay politically active in the 41st. Rahm is getting involved in the aldermanic run offs; he lost the 41st ward; I have a pretty good idea where his army is heading. Do you think Gavin has a shot?

    ReplyDelete
  65. Mr. Murphey, you too are a class act - please stay involved in the 41st. We need more proactive citizens such as you and Mr. Gonzalez.

    ReplyDelete
  66. I would like to thank all of the candidates for their efforts. All brought a different perspective. To the writer blaming others for a loss, GET REAL. Research each candidate. Each candidate has baggage that doesn't appeal to different segments of the population. It comes down to which candidate a greater segment of the population can identify with or are endebted too. The status quo won. You can call it the connected ones, machine, or combine. The name is immaterial. 30% of those that voted liked Mary and 25% like Maurita. So you can even toss out 6 candidates and the numbers are not there for the remaining candidates to split the 45%. So for the post at 6:07 on Feb 24...Learn some math and then grow a set and run for office.

    ReplyDelete
  67. I like grow a set. Sounds like a go getter. You need to run for office. "Who are you?"

    ReplyDelete
  68. I would like to hear, if possible, what Murphey and Gonzalez think about the run-off. Who will they be going for, if anyone?
Either O'Connor or Gavin will be the next alderman of our ward. We may not like it, but its the facts we have to face. Now, let's stay involved and get behind the right candidate. There are quite a few differences between the two and it will be very important for us to attend the debates and do our research to back the best candidate for the future of our great ward.
