  1. Wow, good choice Tribune. Affirmed what I saw the other night in this candidate.

  2. Nice to see a hard working candidate get the Trib endorsement. I met Thomas a couple of weeks ago when he came to our door, and I was very impressed by his knowledge and work ethic. I think he will make a fine alderman.

  3. I'm happy to see the tribune went with a candidate who has the qualifications and background for the job instead of the status quo candidate/old guard or the annointed one. The Sun-Times really screwed up. The 41st ward is ready for a real alderman.

  4. The no money, no army, against all odds candidate. Murphy is the "nobody, nobody sent", in other words, the people's genuine choice. Must be making the pols crazy to see the 41st Ward, and now the Tribune, support someone they haven't sent.

  7. My book club has been watching the race since December and we have been hoping Murphey comes out ahead. Good choice Chicago Tribune.

  8. Congratulations Mr. Murphey; well done and well deserved. I pray that when all is said and done, the best and most-qualified person takes over the representation of the 41st ward.

  9. I'm a city worker. I work hard and believe that when I retire I would like to be entitled to receive my pension. 32 year old wet behind the ear Murphy only has 4 years as a city employee HE IS NOT VESTED WITH THE CITY PENSION SO HE DOES NOT CARE ABOUT CITY WORKERS! THE 41ST WARD HAS LOTS OF CITY WORKERS! GONZALEZ SHOWED AND HAS SHOWN THAT HE IS A 18 YEAR CITY EMPLOYEE AND BELIEVES THAT WE SHOULD HAVE OUR PENSION WHEN WE RETIRE! I'M ALL FOR RCHARD GONZALEZ.

  10. Smart guy, but too young and inexperienced for the job.

  11. Rahm Emanuel will definitely be mayor whether we like or not. This is not good for the 41st Ward city employees. Rahm will cut city jobs and the media has reported that many unions are being defiant against the little man. All said and done, the 41st ward will continue to lose residents to foreclosure, crime and the poor economical hardship. Murphy would not be able to handle all the upcoming pressures. Murphy would not be able to pay hard ball with the big boys and girls in the city council. They will eat him "ALIVE". Rahm Emanuel fights dirty and we need someone that's going to roll up the sleeves and fight like a man.

  12. My question to all the candidates is what have they done for the community before wanting to be our alderman??? Any volunteer efforts?

  13. Thomas Patrick Murphy's facebook states that his background/experience is: He currently works as a city planner for the City of Chicago and he has a Master's Degree in urban planning from UIC. IS THAT ALL? Is that all the experience this guy has? Is Urban Planning his first real job since getting his Master's Degree? OH MY G*D! 41st Ward residents please do your homework. This is not a joke. Murphey is a great guy BUT experience experience experience he lacks in the real world. Whenever I see a Doctor I always ask how long has it's been since he's been practicing medicine. Trust me 4-5 years is not gonna cut it!

  14. Smart guy, but the Tribune made a big mistake in this endorsement process.

Murphy is not a union employee and does not have a pension.

I doubt they will make the correction, but they should.

It's easy to take away a pension when you don't have one.

Lots of police officers an firefighters put their life on the line. This will definitely scare them.

  15. Mr Murphey I heard you speak the other night and I was quite impressed until I read what you told the Chicago Tribune Editorial Board. I have worked for the city for over 22 years. I am planning on retiring in the next few years. The statement you made of your willingness to bring pension reform even though it would affect you personally is completely FALSE. You have only 4 years with the city and you are not any where close to being vested. You have 30 years to plan your retirement. I planned mine 22 years ago. Dont mess with my pension. You are beginning to sound alot like the self appointed mayoral candidate Ralm Emanuel.

  16. Looks like Mr. Murphey may be the dark horse . . .

  17. Murphey landed the first spot on the ballot. He won endorsement from the Trib. He's educated, articulate and can be the face of the future for this ward if we do our job and elect him on Feb 22.

  18. What is a "dark horse"?

  19. A "dark horse" is:

a political candidate who is not well known but could win unexpectedly.

Politically, the term reached America in the nineteenth century when it was first applied to James K. Polk, a relatively unknown Tennessee Democrat who won the Democratic Party's 1844 presidential nomination over a host of better-known candidates. Polk won the nomination on the ninth ballot, and went on to win the presidential election.

  20. Congratulations, Mr. Murphey. You can count on my vote.

  21. Congratulations Patrick! The 41st Ward needs an alderman who truly cares about the people he serves. What a refreshing view.

  22. John Quinn is in my opinion , the only candidate that can lead the 41st ward in to the future. He will get my vote. Mr Murphey is too young and inexperienced for this job.
