Questions for the 41st Ward Aldermadic Candidates

The 41st Aldermatic election will take place on February 22, 2011.  What do we know about the many candidates on the ballot?  What are their thoughts about some of the major issues facing the ward and the city and how will they represent us if they win?  How would they describe their leadership style?  Moreover, are there going to be aldermadic debates in the 41st Ward, and who will host them?

Meanwhile, if you had a chance to ask the candidates a question or two, what would they be?  Post them here, and let's see if we can get a few of the candidates to respond to the questions with some depth and insight into how they will represent us in city hall.

  1. What is your opinion about the red light cameras? Do they make intersections safer or are they just a good money maker for the city? And what about short yellows? Do they cause more accidents?

  2. I have not heard any mention of transportation related issues on the candidates' websites. Chicago was recently deemed the "most congested city in America" by the Texas Transportation Institute (http://tti.tamu.edu/documents/mobility_report_2010.pdf). Given the location of the 41st Ward, it's likely that residents spend significant time commuting on the Kennedy, the CTA Blue Line, the Metra and city streets.

Does anyone else feel that this is a serious quality of life issue? What about the impact on our ability to be a truly environmentally sustainable city?

What do you think we can or should do to improve this situation? Is this an issue that an alderman should help to tackle?
