An Ice Skating Rink in the 41st Ward

Has anyone wondered why there isn't an outdoor ice skating rink in the 41st Ward?  I have watched kids trying to skate on an outdoor puddle in the park...why don't we give them a maintained outdoor ice rink?  Some of the happiest childhood memories I have are of the outdoor ice rinks at the local Chicago Park.  Lets encourage healthy outdoor physical activity and ask the new alderman (whoever that may be) to give the kids some outdoor ice!

  1. I saw a dozen boys trying to skate on a frozen puddle in the forest preserve field located at Central Ave and the curve. There were blades of grass sticking up through the ice puddle which was about 12 feet in diameter. It was a truly pathetic sight. They had hockey sticks in their hands and looked like they were struggling to skate.

  3. the permanent icerinks were put up to ensure a longer season of skating. the rinks sprayed on the ground are at the constant mercy of the weather, you can't even start flooding until the temperature is 32 degrees or less for an entire week. too bad we lost the rink at the Forest Preserve which was taken up and down every year. it had lots of use.
