Rahm's First 100 Days: Comments from Readers

Readers,

This comment came in from a reader about his/her thoughts regarding the Mayor's first 100 days.  Feel free to send your comments, too.

From a Guest Blogger:

Today, Chicagos' citizenry celebrates Rahms' first 100 days. Rahm allowed the press to ask a few questions..... Mr. Mayor, what is your biggest disappointment so far? Rahm: That's easy. Gov. Quinns' failure to sign the casino gambling expansion. He may think he is Governor, but we all know who is in charge. I got big plans for that cash.

But, Mr. Mayor, hasn't research proven time and again the legalized gambling has been disastrous for society as a whole? Rahm: (Gritting his teeth) I've already explained how we get around that. First, we OK a massive expansion of Walmart stores - from super sized to small, across Chicago. That will make cheap food available for all those degenerate gamblers who lose their shirts at casinos. Just yesterday, I was smoking Cuban cigars with the Walmart guys at my place. They told me about some of the great deals they have on produce -  for instance, Chinese grown celery stalks, fortified with glycol, for a dime each. Hunger problem solved.

Mr. Mayor, have you ever shopped at Walmart? Rahm: (LOL for about 10 minutes).

Next question. Mr. Mayor, surely a large expansion of Casino gambling would result in a rise in homelessness, correct? Rahm: I'm way ahead of you, as usual. You forget that the reconstruction of Wacker Drive is nearing completion. For generations, Wacker Drive has been used as a great place for the homeless to live, complete with heating grates and shelter from rain and snow. Trust me, we will make full use of Wacker Drive. I have also approved a return to the traditional bench for our city parks. This way the homeless can go back to stretching out while sleeping.

Lastly,  Mr. Mayor, what are you most proud of in your first 100 days? Rahm: That is a tough one. I've done so much. I'll go with the way I handled the fallout from the Burge torture cases. In that case my top priority was to protect former mayor Daley. I see Dick as a Chicago treasure. All he ever wanted was to make life easier for his wife, sons, daughters, brothers, his sisters, his nephews, his nieces, and boyhood friends. Like some one told me the other day, "He may be an idiot, but he's our idiot."  Now if you will excuse me, I'm working on a deal to reinstall the old parking meters as retrofitted slot machines. Gotta go....

  2. But the media is so supportive of his corportist ways. You can't have it both ways, we are now doomed to fail.

But blame it on the Tea Party. Sad.

Ex: The MLK monument was made by Chinese and the MLK foundation demanded 800,000.00 for the rights.

    Doomed I say, doomed.

PS. May where is the DARE program at our schools? Oh right cancelled. So, we'll have more gamblers addicted to booze and drugs due to the combine.

    Pure evil.

  4. As a 41st ward resident, I would ask all of you reading this to question why in the 16th police district, we have the lowest amount of officers for one of the largest police districts. I know plenty of officers and the ones that work in bad neighborhoods claim to have plenty of officers where they work. In one of the highest taxed areas of the city, we get the least service. If the 16th district commander doesn't want to request more police, maybe we need to look elsewhere and start looking for a new figurehead! I very rarely see a squad car on my block, and almost NEVER see a "narc" car drive past, although I do see plenty of both near Portage park. Why are we being punished because we live in a nice quiet area ? It's not gonna be that way for long if we don't get more officers up here soon!

  5. As 41st Ward Overtaxed residents - Demand equal services for the high taxes we pay. Police, community, how about we take our TIF money and keep it in the ward, etc

  6. FYI: There are no TIF districts in the 41st Ward. It may be time to re-evaluate the need for a TIF district along Northwest Highway and in the O'Hare community. Those communities were set up for manufacturing development and have abandoned "blighted" structures and properties..

  7. RAHM TO ANNOUNCE ERROR OF HIS WAYS - PROPOSES NEW SCHOOL FUNDING PLAN BY DENOUNCING NAFTA.....

Dateline Chicago....Under tremendous pressure from furious CPS parents and his own guilt ridden conscience, Mayor Rahm Emanual announced a proposal that would, if approved, provide more than adequate funding for the United States entire public education system.

"Today, I propose that President Obama use his executive powers and withdraw the United States from its' obligations under the North America Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA)", Mayor Emanual declared. "I do so that we can reverse a 30 year economic decline the has resulted in the devastation of America's manufactoring base, not to mention the outsourcing of 50,000 of our factories, and 5 million manufactoring jobs."

"Since becoming Chicago's Mayor, even I - one of the architects of NAFTA -could not help but notice the thousands of abandoned factories that used to employ thousands of Chicagoans." "Those same Chicagoans", sobbed the Mayor, "who of course owned homes, payed taxes, and funded our Public School system. Those jobs are, thanks to me, long gone."

"And in the error of my ways I, as usual, blamed the problem on not just workers, but female workers. I mean come on, you did not think I'd blame it on the trade unions who Daley signed up for ten years, did you? Any one of their empty overalls can kick my ass."

"Therefore I declare from this point forward my war against NAFTA. I am waiting for the President's response to my proposal."
