WHy do we have to endure a property tax increase at the whim of the mayor and the school board when a hefty TIF surplus exists? Makes no sense to working families who paid into TIF. Why should a coprporate welfare slush fund exists in Chicago when we don't have enought police and can't pay teachers for a longer, safer school day?
ReplyDeleteMaybe those TIF dollars can pay for more police officers, so the 16th district police officers won't be redeployed all over the city!
ReplyDeleteI just got my property tax bill: Board of education tax went up $502 dollars!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteWe need a responsible budget - quite TAXING me!!!
Noticed our alderman is missing, as usual. I guess she wants working families to pay, and pay.
ReplyDeleteLong overdue. Use TIF dollars for the schools and cops. the corporations need to pay for their own bathroom remodeling.
ReplyDeleteThis is a move in the right direction. I'm tired of NAFTA Rahm taking care of the rich and destroying working families.
ReplyDeleteI heard the press is tired of hearing "no comment" from Mary O'Connor
ReplyDeleteAre those voteres I see speaking, participating and invited to support the aldermen? Not like here where parents aren't invited and who knows what was discussed. Startignto feel like a third world country in the 41st. Someone send Mary O'Connor a 6th grade book on the principals of democracy. She will never understand that whats she did hurt more than helped. ANytime you purposely cut out the voter, YOU LOSE. no matter how right you think you are.
ReplyDeleteTIF surplus should have been placed back into the general budget BEFORE the property tax increase was involked by the Chicago Board of Education, whose members are not elected, but appointed by the mayor (not to the taxpayer).
ReplyDeleteA property tax increase could have been avoided if city government was properly managed.
Notice what happens when you have a corporatist mayor who doesn't care about the working class -no wonder people refer to him as NAFTA Rahm. He sold out working class people then and he continues to do it today.
And by the way, it would be smart if the FOP and CFF joined the aldermen fighting for the release of TIF dollars. Those dollars would be earmarked to help you and your families. Notice CTU joined them because they know their raises are somewhere in those hopefully released TIF dollars.

TIFS are nothing but problems. We need to address the basics in the city before a slush fund.
ReplyDeleteThe FOP and CFF needs to get on board with this movement and these aldermen. The TIF funds they are trying to get released would go to CPD to hire more cops, as well as CPS, parks and libraries.
ReplyDeleteNo matter how hard FOP and CFF try not to align themselves with unions and working people, that is who they are - they are no different from any other working stiff trying to get ahead.
The only difference and the reason why no one takes FOP seriously - COPS DON"T VOTE. Big mistake. FOP will never have any political power or collective strength if their members DON"T VOTE.
The cops I know are the biggist bunch of whiners when it comes to their contract. Rahm is going to go after them and he will win, because they have no collateral support from other unions AND THEY DON"T VOTE - so politicians don't really care what happens to them.
Part of the Responsible Budget Ordinance should include a forensic audit of the current budget. How can you possibly be responsible without the information an audit can reveal?
