  1. Thanks for posting this. I lost my job and COBRA just expired. First time in my life, I have no insurance. I dread going to Cook County, and was wondering if anyone else is aware of a free or low cost clinic around here?

  2. @4:15pm ~

Both of these free clinics offer comprehensive clinical care donated by volunteer physicians and nurse practitioners. Medications are also available, free of cost, but can be limited to formulary medications (generics, etc). Need appointments, call ahead.

  3. @4:15pm ~

Federally Qualified Health Clinics (FQHCs) are also available in Chicago. If you go to the website posted below, enter your zip code, will give you a list of clinics nearby.

FQHCs are low-cost, sliding scale clinics. Fees depend on your income. There is a mandated minimal fee ($20 to $45) depending on the clinic. FQHCs also have access to reduced cost medications.

    Good Luck..

  4. So, why are their two flu shot events on October 22? Doesn't seem like a good use of resources. Looks like a November event would spread out free flu shot access in the 41st Ward.

  5. The October 22 event is one event - held at St. Joseph's, sponsored by the alderman.

  6. I went to Community Health Clinic and had a pretty good experience. I saw a doctor who spent about 30 minutes with me. They drew some bloodwork and gave me medication for a thyroid condition I haven't been taking bacause I had no insurance. I have another appointment next month to see a foot doctor. I would recommend it for anyone who can't afford health care. There was a wait, but I brought a book and read for about an hour.

  7. Does anyone know about any dental clinics?

  8. @6pm Free & Low-cost dental care:

    1. University of Illinois Dental School Clinics - by appointment, and the first appt is a screening to see if they can provide the treatment you need. There are set fees for persons without insurance. It may take weeks to get an appt. The number is (312) 996-1265.

    2. Community Health clinic listed in the comments above has a dental clinic at the Chicago Avenue site. You have to register as a medical patient (and use the medical services) in order to use the dental clinic. Services provided are at no cost.

    3. Illinois Masonic Hospital has an adult oral health clinic for unisured adults. There are set fees for services.

    4. There a a few Federally Qualified Health Clinics with dental services available, but oral health services are usually limited to persons who are also their medical patients. Examples of FQHCs with oral health services are Erie Health and Heartland Health Clinics (Northeast, by the lake)
