If You Thought It Was Easy To Get A Ticket Around Here, You Were Right
Ald. Scott Waguespack (32nd) requested a list of vehicle boots and tickets by ward from the Chicago Comptroller during the 2012 city budget process. Normally aldermanic budget questions and departmental answers are not released to the public but the IG’s office requested the documents and released them on Monday.
The honor for the highest amount of tickets went to the Loop’s 42nd Ward, with 300,347 and the lowest to the far southwest side 19th Ward with 18,112.
The 32nd Ward was also the 5th highest ward for car boots, with 1,968 boots mounted in 2010. The 44th Ward escaped with a mere 1,005.
The highest amount of boots went to the far northwest side 41st Ward, with 2,443 and the lowest the the far southwest side 19th Ward with 384. Perhaps coincidentally, a large number of Chicago police officers live in the 19th Ward.
41st Ward is targeted for boots. Easy to boot and people here pay up. You would think the most boots would go with the Wards with most tickets.
ReplyDeletewe pay and pay and pay
ReplyDelete41st ward is being profiled by the Department of Revenue. How can there be 2000 less boots in the 19th Ward? Makes no sense, unless the ward is being targeted.
ReplyDeleteeveryone is robbing us, the city and the burglars!
ReplyDeleteWTF
ReplyDeleteRahm told the Department of Revenue to come and get us. This is payback.
ReplyDeleteIts open season on the 41st Ward - take our cops and boot our asses. A real message being sent from city hall.
ReplyDelete41st ward was one of two wards Rahm did not win. You figure it out.

ReplyDeleteDoesn't the Department of Revenue know how to drive to the West or the South sides of the city?
ReplyDeleteAre any of you really shocked?
ReplyDeleteWe have traffic cameras everywhere. We pay the highest taxes and receive absolutely NOTHING in return. The mayor hates us because we didn't vote for him. We have a freshman alderman with no power and no spine. And all of our cops are either reassigned and/or retiring leaving the ward vulnerable.
This needs to be investigated. A huge disparity between wards meaning we have been targeted. We need to know why! This ward isn't receiving the most tickets, IT'S RECEIVING THE MOST PUNISHMENT FOR RECEIVING TICKETS. WHERE IS THE F'N ACLU FOR US?
ReplyDeleteDepartment of Revenue knows an easy ward when they see it. We boost their numbers with easy to boot cars and people who actually pay their bills.
ReplyDeleteBut, you are correct, this ward is a target and the Department of Revenue should be investigated as to why they are targeting one area over another.
Alderman Wagespack seems to know the right questions to ask, and he isn't afraid to ask them.
ReplyDeleteWhere is the ACLU when we are being targeted?
ReplyDeleteThis really stinks
ReplyDeleteNotice, if you have seizure/boot notice on one of your cars, ANY of your cars can get booted if you are the registered owner.
ReplyDeleteDont park illegally or do something stupid then you won't get a ticket.
ReplyDeleteand if you do get a ticket from one of the thousands of parking box spaces we have to pay $1.25/hour to park at or a ticket from the hundreds of cameras everywhere in the ward, make sure you pay them immediately or the Department of Revenue will bee-line to your house because you live in the 41st ward.
ReplyDeleteThe city has become an undesirable place to live in and to be frank, the ward looks ratty and unkept. If you are going to tax and fine people to death, at least make the place look like its worth it.
ReplyDeleteMove to the 19th ward - less property taxes, fines and city hassles. They are cared for over there.
ReplyDelete41st Ward has twice and three times the number of boots then most of the other wards if you look at the chart.
ReplyDeleteIsn't O'Hare in the 41st Ward? The numbers from 2010 are highest in 41st and the 23rd Ward, the wards with airports. This could be a contributing factor.
ReplyDeleteto 1:42pm would depend on if the data collected was based on vehicle owner address/zip code or the location/address of where the boot/ticket was placed. Info isn't clear on the charts.
ReplyDeleteEven if the numbers included the O'Hare parking lot, I'm sure the Department of Revenue spends part of their day going up and down 41st ward streets just because they are here. And by the way, most of the airport parking is privatized. Only the main lot is a city lot.
ReplyDeleteHave seen quite a few booted cars on the side streets the last few months including my own street that had two cars booted overnight about a month ago.
ReplyDeleteIf you're on the boot list (and most people do receive a 21 day notice), are you going to park in a city lot? I doubt it.
ReplyDelete10:10am Ya think?
ReplyDeleteIt sounds as though someone needs to go back to the data and find out where exactly all these 2200+ boots were placed in the 41st ward or if the info was collected by vehicle owners address.
