Dear 16th District Residents,
We have seen an increase in the number of residential burglaries in the district. Over the Thanksgiving weekend, we suffered 6 burglaries in an area on Beat 1613 bounded by Gunnison to Argyle and Nagle to Harlem.
In one instance, a victim was returning home on Sunday, 27 November at 17:40 hours to discover the offenders in the front and rear of the residence. The offenders fled upon the arrival of the victim. One of the offenders was described as a male, white between 20 to 25 years of age, between 5'08 to 5'10 in height, and weighing up to 250 pounds. The second offender was described as being a male, white between 20 to 25 years of age, 5'08 to 5'10 in height, and weighing 190 pounds.
In another instance on Monday, 28 November at 1130 hours, two offenders in a small grey vehicle, with a partial plate L10 burglarized a residence. One of the offenders remained in the vehicle while the second subject gained entry to the home and removed property. This offender is described as a male, white between 18-20 years of age, 6'0 in height, weighing 160 to 180 pounds.
We have worked closely with our suburban partners and learned that there were two burglaries in the same time frame in Harwood Heights, which is directly south of this portion of Beat 1613. In one of their burglaries, three offenders in a black Mazda 6 four door hatchback with tinted windows, five spoke rims, wing on the trunk conducted surveillance on the targeted residence, drove away for a few minutes, and returned. Upon return, one offender (male, white 20 to 25 years of age) is dropped off in the alley, walks around to the front door, and then walks around the side of the house and makes entry. The offender subsequently exists the residence with a plasma TV and is assisted by another male, white 20 to 25 years of age.
The 16th District is working closely with Area 5 in an attempt to quickly identify and apprehend the offenders. We are continually updating our personnel with any new information, and making additional street and vehicle stops in the area. If anyone has further information please let us know, and we will forward that information to the detectives and field officers as appropriate. Please alert your friends and neighbors to be on the lookout for any suspicious persons or activity, and call 911 as appropriate.
Thank you,
David McNaughton

It took the commander an entire week to get this alert out, and interestingly enough, the day after you write him a letter?
ReplyDeleteSounds like two very active crews
ReplyDelete4:38pm has an excellent point. In this day and age of technology, this alert should have been sent out the next day. No excuses.
ReplyDeleteIt will just be a matter of time before one of these burglars hurt a home owner who walks in on them.
Knowledge is power. Let us know what's going on in our own neighborhood and don't be afraid to communicate.
Hey moderator, really hard to read that newsletter. But, from what I can read the interventions listed are routine procedures - talking to neighbors of victim homes, stopping suspicious looking cars, etc. And I would hope the 16th is working with detectives. Nothing new in all of this. What I question is if there are enough officers in the district to actually do what you should be doing to deter crime.
ReplyDeleteI want to take a minute to thank the commander for putting out the above alert and newsletter. I appreciate accurate information. I heard all kinds of rumors and the numbers of homes robbed are still being inflated by people who haven't read your alerts. I agree with using the internet to send out alerts and if this could be more formalized, I think more people will receive accurate information.
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone know what happened with the proposed hookah lounge on Harlem? I believe the vote was scheduled for December 16
