  1. I want to go to present my laundry list to Mary O'connor. After decades of neglect, I hope she has a plan for the Ward

  2. I'm sure O'Connor has a plan for the ward and it doesn't include helping anyone who isn't her friend or relative. We're selling our house and moving out of the ward now that Barney Fife is running it

  3. Let's all go to the meeting and find out who Jason Hernandez really is, where her office is located and why she hires only family

  4. I don't care about the partisan nonsense. I'm going to find out how the community is going to be improved

  5. 5:45pm

I completely agree and look forward to listening to new plans and projects for the ward. I really don't want to hear about post-election sour grapes

  6. yeah, sour grapes people stay home

  7. I don't live near Foster/Harlem - can you go to the meeting if you don't live over that way but are still in the 41st?

  8. This meeting is only for property owners in the Harlem Foster area (that is east of Harlem, west of Nagle, north of Gunnison and south of Higgins)

  9. I sincerely hope people come to this meeting to listen and not to grouse, complain or carry on. It's a new start for us all and we should try to begin on a positive & supportive note. Campaign is over, so lets move on.

  10. To Barney Fife,

Make sure your bring Goober with you when you leave the Ward. Yeah right, with names like O'Connor and Hernandez their cousins. Thank you for that narrow minded, prejudiced and bigoted comment, it brightened up my day. Meet Jason Hernandez here: http://www.linkedin.com/pub/jason-hernandez/8/a25/9b7.

  11. Is it "grousing" to expect elected officials to actually live up to their campaign promises?
Is it "grousing" to challenge them on their mis-statements and exaggerations of their abilities?
We absolutely should and will begin on a positive and supportive note; but it would be illogical and foolish not to retain one's memory of factual history as we move forward together. Let's not whitewash the past.

  13. Great meeting - many thanks to officers of the Harlem - Foster Property Owners Association. I have been going to these meetings for about five years and continue to be very impressed with the quality of speakers, the meeting flow, topics and organization in general. Everyone who attended, please send comments and thoughts.

The meeting began with announcements, petitions, CAPS report, etc. Mary O'Connor spoke about her new office at 6107 W. Northwest Highway (Raven & NWH), the new 41st Ward website and she introduced her new staff/specific communities they will be working with. Mary and her staff are taking email info from residents so they can send out regular communication - community alerts, street cleaning, and other important information.

The second set of speakers were from the Department of Aviation and they spoke about the OHare Modernization Project in detail.

Questions from the audience largely were about noise abatement, and what could be done about the noise levels from air traffic in and around the Harlem-Foster area, especially for affected residents who live outside of the "Noise Footprint". Persons who qualify for noise mitigation money must live north of the expressway and west of Harlem per the current guideline.

Residents who live just outside of the boundries are wondering what can be done to assist them with accessing the program that pays for noise reduction windows, etc... It will be interesting to see what next steps are taken to at least look into assessing & evaluating the questions proposed by residents tonight.

A few of the suggestions I heard: 1. generate a petition to address the concern formally. 2. Call the new Alderman's office and speak to a staff member about next steps.

If anyone else has more info, please comment.

  14. Meeting tonight was good. Good programs. One comment though I thought it would have been nicer to have Mary when she introduced herself ask the group if there were questions so all could hear the comments versus a talking individually to her afterward.

  15. One more thing:

The phone number to call if you would like to see if your home qualifies for noise reduction windows, etc... is 773-894-3255.

  16. I agree, good meeting. At a future meeting, I would like to talk about businesses we need to attract, and businesses we need to get rid of in the neighborhood.

A topic that may need further discussion is the Hookah bar located on Harlem near Foster. The hookah bar is a middle eastern establishment where patrons share shisha (flavored tobacco) from a communal hookah or nargile (water pipe shared by 4 or more people) which is placed at each table.

This particular Hookah bar is open very late at night, the patrons park all over the place on side streets, are noisy, sometimes drunk, litter etc.. There is a petition going around to get rid of this business.

Also, we learned that the owners have just announced that they will be seeking to open a second Hookah bar somewhere not far in the 41st ward.

  17. Somebody shoot me, Please! O'Connor's been Alderman for 4 days, what is there to whitewash? Wouldn't any whitewashing be credited to the previous 20 years?

  18. O'Connor and her entire staff stuck around to meet constituents. Very friendly and eager to listen.

  19. From the Harlem-Foster Property Owners' Association:

Some of you were unable to get a copy of the information distributed by the members of the OHare Modernization Program. Please click in to the link below for the map and other valuable information regarding the program.

  20. True, Mary O'Connor and her staff stuck around to speak with people and address concerns. Nice beginning.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Stop micro managing her already. Let the woman work. Stop being critical of her.

    ReplyDelete
  22. The alderman said she was keeping the zoning advisory board. I think that is ok, but hope that part of the new process could be more community input via forums to discuss development projects BEFORE they happen and post notices of special meetings.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I can only imagine that all these glowing comments regarding o'connor are from those that don't actually know her and have first hand knowledge of her lies, deceit and broken promises. Take it from one who has first hand knowledge of her handiwork. She talks a good game but trust me, she will fail to deliver

    ReplyDelete
  24. So, what kind of follow up will happen with OMP as a result of the meeting? Anything concrete?

    ReplyDelete
  25. Did anyone stop to think that the real noise maker in our community, besides jet airplanes, are the hundreds of McDonnel-Douglas backpack leafblowers and Hummer-sized lawn mowers deployed almost 24/7 by landscapers hired by home owners to lazy to mow their own damn lawns? I hope someone, anyone in the city council proposes an ordinance that reels in this ear blasting menace.

    Huh?

    ReplyDelete
  26. Most of the noisemakers are the youngsters driving around in their loud sports cars, windows open and stereo at full blast.
