Chicago Alderman Seeks To Increase Cost Of Vehicle Stickers For SUVs Progress Illinois
Owners of gas-guzzling cars in Chicago could see city sticker shock to go with the pain at the pump if an alderman's plan to increase the cost of the annual stickers is approved.
Ald. Joe Moreno, 1st, hopes to raise about $21 million per year for the cash-strapped city by raising the price of city vehicle stickers for certain types of cars.
Moreno's plan, which he introduced to the City Council today, also would lower the cost of the stickers for electric cars and hybrids.
"The long-term goal is to give more incentive for people to drive more fuel-efficient cars," said Moreno, who drives a hybrid himself.
Currently, stickers for small passenger cars that run on gas cost $75 per year. Those would go up $20 to $95 under the Moreno proposal, which will head to the Finance Committee for further consideration.
what are with these Aldermen and their fixation to tax car owners to death? The parking meters are killing us, the higher prices for gas in the city limits, the pot holes that are costing residents a fortune in car repairs and now this. These aldermen are absolutely crazy.
ReplyDeleteNow is not the time to be raising fees - this is nuts
ReplyDeleteWe pay the highest prices in the country for gas, parking meter cost are outrageous and now this? I need to move.
ReplyDeleteI understand the intention behind the fee hike, but the timing couldn't be worse - vote against any fee hikes until the budget is whittled down first
ReplyDeleteWhich way did Mary vote?
ReplyDeleteto 2:39 - this hasn't been voted on yet. It originally came up in April, and didn't have enough support - went back to the finance committee. Is due to be resurrected soon. So, let Alderman O'Connor know how you feel about this now, don't wait.

Alderman O'Connor - vote no
ReplyDeleteAlderman O'Connor - vote present. Obama did it all the time and look where it got him. Be non committal and get along with everyone. Your pension depends on it.
ReplyDeleteWill Alderman O'Connor's office be selling vehicle stickers in her office? If so, when will that be?
ReplyDeleteThe 41st ward website has been up for over a month yet it's still the same as it was in the beginning. No changes in the content. Where are all the updates Ald. O'connor promised? Or is this one of many campaign promises that will certainly not be fufilled?
