Norwood Park Dog Park Location Meeting

Sent to the blog by a community member, today:

Community Meeting 4/30/12- Norwood Park Field house
Primary Agenda- Dog Park Relocation
Other - Alderman’s recent votes
Start 6:30pm- concluded 6:50 pm

This is my take on the meeting and I’ve paraphrased.
If any of the info I’m posting is incorrect, corrections are welcomed.
Meeting started with a few introductions, I didn’t get some names/titles.
Alderman, Mary O’Conner
State Rep. McAuliffe
Gent 1- Regional Park Manager, I believe.
Gent 2- Park management/operations type person
Res 1-
Res 2-
I would guess there were about 75 people present.
Dog Park
The dog park will be relocated to the northeast section of the park and be enlarged to about 10,500 sq ft.
Work to start in June taking about 6 wks to complete.
There will also be other improvements made to the parks plumbing, etc. and other minor improvements made to other community parks as part of this effort.
Existing dog park will remain open during transition.
The existing location can be returned back to its prior use for ice-skating.
Several residents asked some general questions about the design, hours, drainage issues etc. The alderman, gent 1 and gent 2 answered.
State Rep. spoke very briefly, comments not substantial, other than implying he had something to do with obtaining funding.
Res 1: Was a park usage survey done before decisions made regarding the dog park?
As she believes it’s required residents within a 5-block radius be surveyed prior to usage changes.
Alderman O’Conner: No it hadn’t (not sounding sure) and dog park was put in motion prior to her taking office.
Res 1 pursued the issue and the Alderman stated that it wasn’t an issue for a public forum, they could discuss privately.
Overall the audience favored dog park relocation and improvements.
Alderman’s recent votes
Res 2: Would like to know Alderman O’Conner why you voted for the speed camera ordinance after stating several weeks prior that she wasn’t in support of it and also why she voted for the Infrastructure trust. ( few chuckles heard from  audience)
Alderman O’Conner:  (Looking like a deer in the headlights) ahhh, ummm…. (Gent 1 steps in)
Gent 1: a public forum isn’t the place to discuss this; the Alderman has an office, where you can schedule a private meeting.
Res 2: (gesturing toward the audience) maybe some of these people would also like to know and my question was for the alderman.
Gent 1: She doesn’t have time for this because State Rep. McAuliffe has another appointment to go to
Res 2: He (McAuliffe) can leave if he needs to since the question doesn’t pertain to him it was for the Alderman
Gent1: She has an office, you can schedule a private meeting. Meeting over!  Thank you for coming.

  1. So, the alderman, an elected PUBLIC official would not answer questions at a PUBLIC forum. WTF. WHy is she in office? Useless.

  2. here's one she can answer:

    1. Exactly! The sad part is, how could she not expect that question? With information available so quickly, one would think that the questioning of her speed camera vote might come up in a public forum.

  3. A public forum isn't the place for the public to discuss public issues and votes with their elected official. I knew she was nothing more than a paid puppet but I thought she would be able to put on a better show. Are people beginning to figure out that O'Connor and Mulroe sold us all out? BOYCOTT O'CONNOR'S MARKET AND INCREDIBLE EDIBLES.

    1. Hey blogger; This guy keeps connecting Mulroe to all things on earth that are evil. He's a whack job. Please stop posting his deranged rants.

    2. I recall it was not long ago when the prior alderman declared his opposition to privitizing city parking, only to vote in favor of it a few days later. I agreed with him when he opposed selling it, and remember thinking his stated position was in line with his constituents wishes. When he flip-flopped, I was sure the Wall Street firm behind the deal bribed him with the usual payoff of cash and/or blond honeypots.

Fast-forward a few years and the current alderman steps on the same rake. As the great Yogi Berra once philosified, "It's deja vu all over again."

  4. Hey blogger: there are plenty of us out here who know O'Connor and Mulroe are tied at the hip. It was O'Connor, Deleo and the rest of the Kabal that appointed and annointed the guy who voted to raise our income tax 66%, raise the corporate income tax and raise the toll 80%. But hey these policies are great. Illinois was just ranked number 3 of all 50 states of places to do business---three from the bottom that is! 10:59 A.M sounds like Mulroe's version of the gent at the Norwood Park forum who thought he was protecting O'Connor.

    1. I think I found the source you cited. Today's S-Times reports the ChiefExecutive.net is where you found that 3 of all 50 states item.

Well that changes everything. Why didn't you say so in the first place? I thought you would cite some corporate suck-up, union-busting, right-wing, whack-job, think-tank type of source. Sorry I doubted you.

  5. To hell with o'Connor. And I say raise the corporate tax again - On the the Mercantile Exchange, on Sears, and on Caterpillar. Site your source on that alleged 3 of all 50 states pal. Is it the Chamber? Maybe the Civic Federation. Screw them. That makes your 3 out of 50 claim a load of crap. Tax them, raise the minimum wage to a living wage, and watch the economy boom. And if the corporatists and millionaires squak, have State Troopers escort them to the border. I think I hear your boss calling you 12:04. He wants his limo waxed. Chop-chop.

  6. Mulroe did the right thing. I have been disabled for over ten years and if Mulroe didn't vote for a tax hike , I would be dead. Most of you are fortunate enough to not be in my state of disability, and there is nothing more in this world I would like to be than a tax paying worker..but I have this disease that I didn't ask for.

The state tax hike helps to pay for services I need to stay alive. I am sorry I am a burden to all of you, but I didn't ask for this.

I pray for Mulroe and those who vote like him, everyday.

I'm not to keen about the alderman, O'Connor, because she doesn't listen, but Mulroe listens.

    God Bless you all.

    1. It's no use 5:24. The uber-rich loving no-taxation crowd is a death cult. And they want you, and others like you, dead.

  8. First: Mary needs to rspond to public issues at public forums. Who does she think she is? A: Ashamed to be a sell out.

Second: Mary, always vote for lower taxes. We now have taxation without representation. Mary you have failed us.

Third: Never end a meeting like that. I know of one aldermanic candidate that proposed weekly ward meetings at different parks and would speak with a crowd till midnight. That's genuine! Not a take the money and run type

  9. Ranked 48 by the people who decide where to expand or start a business and some dismiss it as right wing whack job think tank nonsense. And Illinois is led down the path to predition by the crooked politicians. Time to get past the stereo types and hate and wake up. I don't care if it is republican or democrat, a slimy blood sucking leech is a slimy blood sucking leech. Illinois is pissing away its so many inherent advantages as the capitol of the midwest and letting the likes of Indiana and Wisconsin compete where they have no business (no pun intended)competing other than our idiotic politicians and their policies.

  10. We are scared of the machine therefore we have to ask questions in public. We also don't trust you Mary, therefore we have to ask question in public.

Summed up elected officials have to answer questions in public. Enbd of story.

    Mary's grade...... F-

  11. First off, they are not "people", to hell with what the Supreme Court said. They are leeching, treasonous corporations who play states against each other to squeeze maximum profit, which they promptly ship off to the Caymen Island to avoid any taxation.

If I were President I would: a. Park an aircraft carrier off the coast of or as close to Switzerland, the Caymen Islands, Lichenstein, or any other tax haven nation (we have 11 carriers, and they are currently being used for college basketball and TV reality shows) I would order jets to fly sorties over the banks hiding American milbillionares cash - 24/7, until the money is returned and the milbillionares names are turned over to the IRS.

    b. I urge the signing of legislation currently stalled in Congress that puls highway funding from states who attempt to poach jobs from other states. Problem solved
