Alderman O’Connor in an attempt to justify her vote for the speed cams offered the following locations as possible 41st ward cam locations.
Location of cams
Avondale Avenue is a great place for a speed trap, that’s what it would be not a protection device for pedestrian children. Avondale runs alongside the railroad tracks with the only cross streets at busy intersections such as Bryn Mawr Avenue at the expressway. Nagel, Raven, Sayre, Harlem, Devon those are the only locations where there is pedestrian traffic and none are associated with schools except Nagel with those students anticipating getting a seat by boarding a bus at NW Hgy and Nagel rather then the next bus stop on Nagel. How many pedestrian Children have been hit by a vehicle on Avondale?
Central Avenue is another main roadway where a speed trap could be installed, aside from a stop sign and a significant curve which requires a slow approach drives do tend to accelerate in the forest preserve and adjacent jurisdictions but again the question is how many children pedestrians were hit by vehicles on Central Avenue?
As for Talcott Avenue and Immaculate Conception School the only traffic issue there is parents picking up their Children; the parking lot is a hazardous location. I.C. has 3 crossing guards assigned between Harlem and Oriole, additionally there are electronic traffic Signals at both Harlem and Oriole and stop signs at Odell and about 7600 West. It is virtually impossible to speed down that tract of roadway. How many pedestrian Children have been hit by vehicles on this roadway?
Quite simply this ordinance is intended for revenue under the guise of “protect the children” which is a nice cliché that tends to promote sympathy for a cause. This ordinance will place another expense on motorists who pay one of the highest gas taxes in the nation, higher State license fees, city vehicle stickers and zone parking fees.
We the public are fed up with the innovative way politicians cull money from us; this is one of those methods. Unfortunately our alderman was not one of the few who voted against this measure. We have to question her retention.
John Culloton
41st Ward Resident
Well said! No one believes O'Connor, Rham or any of the other Alderman did this for the children. I would just add that she lied about her having a say in where the cameras are placed. The ordinance gives the individual alderman no control over where the cameras go. It is sad that O'Connor is not even smart enough to know that not only did she go against her ward, she gave Rham more power at her own expense. She is simply not very bright. Don't even get me going on the slush fund for Rahm.
ReplyDeleteI am in complete agreement with the commentary. And what was realy twisted about how O'Connor played the issue, was how she lied when she told everyone (even the press), she was going to vote against the speed cameras and then turned around and voted with the Mayor (and against our wishes). None of us were given the truth so we could speak out appropriately, in the way a democracy should work. No way am I voting for O'Connor, again - "fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me".
ReplyDeleteSee notes from Norwood park meeting.
ReplyDeleteTuesday is ward night, please show up ,ask questions, and let your thoughts be known.
You fools, you voted for O'Connor the first time. You voted poorly, just look at her background. It's pathetic as shown from fliers recieved at our homes (did not live in ward/but registed to vote from business for years, Democratic ward committtman, money from people associated with hired truck) The list goes on and on.
ReplyDeleteWhats even funnier is that Arena is a Big D party member. He has to be the token vote against Rahm because of Garrido swing voters. Believe me, Arena has political cover.
Explain that again. I'm sure you'll hit the nail on the head with your 2nd attempt.
DeleteI kept O'Connors flyers from the election and have been making notes of every boneheaded move and lie she has told. I would be happy to help whomever runs against her in the next election. She is way over her head in a job like alderman.
ReplyDeleteIt's not that she's in over her head, it's that she is part of the machine. The machine can't be beat with a 40% voter turn out, 12 candidates for alderman, and electronic/early voting.
DeleteIt's over, we're done.
