  3. I just bumped into a ward resident who is speaking out against the dog park, she implied that the National Night Out was to address this issue. I got on the blog spot to check it out, because I am actually in support of the dog park and use it frequently. When I saw that the night has to do with citizens and police working together to promote safety, it seemed a good place to post this. I have thought that, since parks and school grounds seem to draw people drinking, littering, tagging, etc. after hours (which we have witnessed while we are out walking our dogs late), having people out walking their dogs near a park would be a good deterent to crime. Particularly because of the dog park's location. People who are invested in the area are out walking near a school and a park, sometimes late. Maybe neighborhood watch could some how link up with frequenters of the dog park. Personally, as a parent, I'd rather see dogs off leash in a fenced area where owners clean up after them, than running loose in parks leaving a mess. Nice way to be social in the community as well.

  4. "police and community working together to make our homes, streets, schools and parks SAFE AND ENJOYABLE FOR ALL!" Somehow the barking from the Dog Park got in the way of ENJOYABLE and we are speaking out! As homeowners in Norwood Park we agree that walking the neighborhood with or without dogs is a crime deterrent. How are dogs barking in a gated tennis court helping? The Norwood Park neighborhood was never given the courtesy of petitions as Brooks Park was when considering placement of a Dog Friendly Area in the 41st ward. None of the Chicago Park District guidelines were followed in establishing this. For more info go to www.movethedogpark.com.
