Committee on Aviation - maybe the alderman can ask someone to take a look at the noise levels around Harlem and Foster. I was told my house doesn't qualify for noise abatement program because it isn't in the "noise contour"/"noise footprint" or whatever. All I know is that the walls shake and I "feel" each and every plane overhead.
ReplyDeleteO'Connor did well with committee assignments. All throughout the campaign, I remember Maurita Gavin chastizing any of the candidates who said they want to be on a certain committee. She would say, "Only the Mayor can appoint you", blah, blah, blah, like a big know-it-all. Well it looks like O'Connor was selected to sit on the most meaningful of the committees and of all the freshman aldermen, she was assigned to the most committees. Public safety, aviation, budget, education, transportation, housing are important policy making committees - she did VERY well...
ReplyDelete41st ward collectively pays some of the highest taxes in the city. Our alderman should have the pick of committees. Its good to see Alderman O'Connor on the education committee- we have the best schools in the city and the least amount of money and support to run them. And we need another high school.
ReplyDeleteTaft High School needs your support!
ReplyDeleteTaft does need our support and the support of the alderman and state officials too. We have only one high school, we really need two. But for now, lets give them the support they need.
ReplyDeleteIf she is on the rules and ethics commitee perhaps she can ask how Mayor Daley recieved his job with the the company who has the parking meters. City employees have to sign papers saying they will not work with vendors for so many years after they retire. What about the mayor?? This is disgraceful!!!! Also are you too busy to have a website for the 41st ward???
ReplyDeleteWheres the 41st website that was I would say the ENTIRE focus on the campaign? Its been a month plenty of time to get something up and running.
ReplyDeleteEthics rules don't apply to kings:
ReplyDeleteDaley takes job at law firm that got city work
Former mayor is joining Katten Muchin Rosenman in 'of counsel' post, so he won't work exclusively for firm
June 01, 2011|By Hal Dardick, Tribune reporter
Former Mayor Richard Daley is taking advantage of his long political career by joining an international law firm that hopes to tap his expertise and connections as someone known for leasing public assets and developing ties with China.
The announcement Wednesday by Katten Muchin Rosenman, which did legal work for the city during Daley's tenure, ended speculation about Daley's main post-mayoral job.
"He is 'of counsel,' so that will allow him to work on other projects," said Jacquelyn Heard, Daley's longtime spokeswoman. "He won't have to work exclusively for Katten."
Daley also is coordinating an urban lecture series at the University of Chicago as a "distinguished senior fellow" at an undisclosed salary, has signed up for a speaker's bureau to give talks that could fetch tens of thousands of dollars a pop and has set up a Gold Coast office for projects he hasn't revealed.
Exactly how much he'll get paid for all that is not clear, but he's likely to eclipse the $216,000 or so he made as mayor.
The 69-year-old former mayor's precise role at Katten Muchin has yet to be determined, Heard said, but she did note that the firm works on public-private partnerships in cities across the nation and for the U.S. Department of Transportation.
In a statement, Daley said he would not take part in any business involving the city, much as he told the Tribune on his last day in office May 13. "As a lawyer, at a law firm, you just build a Chinese wall," he said.
Katten Muchin negotiated the city's much-criticized long-term lease of its parking meters. It was paid $663,000 for the work, while two other law firms made another $655,000 on the overall deal.
The firm also worked on the city's leases of the Chicago Skyway and parking garages, getting $160,000 in payments for those two deals. In the last 16 months, the city has paid the firm, which also does municipal bond work, about $408,000.
Daley also is a longtime friend of real estate attorney Terry Newman, a partner in the firm who is chairman of the Illinois Housing Development Authority.
It's also notable that the firm plans to open an office in Shanghai because Daley has developed a close relationship with government officials in China, which the mayor often praises for its education system and massive public works projects.
Chinese President Hu Jintao visited Chicago in January. And Daley is co-chairman of a federal panel that aims to boost the number of U.S. students studying in China.

41st ward web site: www.ward41.com
ReplyDeleteLooks like Gavin's posse is at it already. The 41st ward already has a website for over a month
ReplyDelete@11:50am - Correct but with nothing on it!
ReplyDelete"Welcome to what will soon be the 41st Ward’s very first virtual office.
In the weeks to come, this web page will provide residents and businesses with information on a variety of city services, community events, important links, and many more exciting features designed to improve accessibility and transparency."
Can you believe we don't even have a ward website? that is all I heard during the whole campaign.
Its been a Month Mary! Wheres the website you kept talking about?
To 1:19. Give Alderman O'Connor a break, it's going to take several months to wade through the mess Doherty left behind.
ReplyDeleteI bet June 22 1:19 PM is either Gavin, Doherty or one of their flunkies.
ReplyDeleteAre any of the city council meetings open to the public? I would love to see our new alderman in action
I live in the 36th ward but I felt I had to comment on the 41st ward website.
ReplyDeleteDuring the aldermanic campaign I couldn't believe that Maurita Gavin was as bad as her opponents supporters said she was. I have certainly changed my tune. I have called Alderman Sposato's office several times with a big problem in the ward and have spoken with her. I can't understand how she could have ever said she could run a ward. She doesn't know her proverbial a-- from a hole in the ground. Her answer to every question is "i guess i'll have to look into that" Can never give anyone a straight answer. The 41st ward is very very lucky that she lost
I am so dissappointed at the last comments. This is nothing but slander on both O'Connor and Gavin. O'Connor WILL have a good website, please give her the time to do that. Throwing up anything just to have it up there is not intelligent, so give her a break for taking the time to do it right. Gavin is no longer "in the race" so everyone needs to move on. If she says she needs to look into something please give her a break too and give her time to get back to you. She is new in that ward. Both of these women are only human, and can only do so much. They can not solve everything immediately or with a magic wand. Personally I think that they both made some bad choices throughout the race, but overall they both are hard working and caring. It would be great to see people bringing up more important issues on this blog! For instance what is happening in education is very serious, as well as what was posted on the O'Hare expansion.
ReplyDelete@1:19 - YOU HAVE TO BE KIDDING!!!!! Doherty/Gavin had 20 years to write a newsletter, hold forums and PUT UP A WEBSITE - twenty years and they did NOTHING!.
ReplyDeleteO'Connor has been in office six weeks and posted a website with contact info immediately as well as got out an email newsletter. I have no doubt an interactive, virtual website will be going up soon. What will you complain about then?
There is no 36th Ward (Sposato) or 45th Ward (Arena)website up and running yet.
ReplyDeleteObjectively speaking, Alderman Doherty and Secretary Gavin weren't known for their communication skills - historical fact. Am looking forward to improved communication, soon.
ReplyDeleteAlderman Sposato has a website up - it is www.aldermansposato.com
ReplyDeleteCan't find it if you google 36th Ward. It's his website - not the wards
To June 24 at 1:45PM. Gavin emphatically stated throughout her entire campaign that she was the best person for the job since she had 15 years experience and had all sorts of contacts in place and knew everybody at city hall. So if she knew so much why couldn't she answer a simple question? The 41st ward is lucky she lost but now we have to put up with sloppy seconds
ReplyDeleteI hope Alderman O'Connor reports on the outcomes and agenda items for the council committees. I would like to know what goes on in committees
ReplyDeleteI too would like to know how O'Connor is voting on issues/outcomes and agenda items. Transperancy is what we were promised. If not it would be great to see the blog posting these things, so that we can discuss the issues. The previous alderman was unaccounted for, and this needs to change.
ReplyDeleteWhat i'm concerned about is how the alderman will vote on the proposed hookah lounge on Harlem. This place is not wanted by the 41st
