Shooting 5300 block of North Natoma

Have received a number of emails about a shooting at 5300 block of North Natoma.  In today's "Chicago Northwest Side Press", specifically, the "Crime Watch" column lead off with:

"A man was shot at about 12:50am, Tuesday, July 3, 2012 in the 5300 block of North Natoma Avenue, according to the 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.  The 40 year old man reported that he was in his yard and that two men approached him and one of them put a handgun to his torso and shot him once in the stomach and that the other man also attempted to shoot him but that his handgun apparently misfired, according to police.  The man was admitted to Our Lady of the Resurrection Medical Center in serious conditio, police said.  The assailants were described only as white and white/Hispanic."

  1. Same block as the February incident - shots fired at suspected gang members living on the 5300 block of Natoma. Drugs and guns confiscated. Is that the apartment building on Natoma/Higgins. I see unsavory types there all the time. Is that now a gang building?

  2. "Crime is down". If I hear that one more time, I will hurl. The crime section of the local paper is full, and I wonder how much crime there is that is never revealed to the public. More lies, less police, tax and fee increases every way you turn.

  3. Interesting as to how this managed to stay out of mainstream news.

  4. Rumor has it Commander Jim O'Donnell is on the very short list of possible replacements for Superintendent Garry McCarthy.

  5. The 16th District commander? Interesting!

  6. When I saw chicago crime on the national news earlier this week, I thought McCarthy's days are numbered because the mayor has aspirations, and if he can't manage this city's crime, no way will he be voted into higher office. The mayor is all about PR and his image and chicago crime is not working for him - it's a crisis he can't control or use to his advantage.

  7. thanks for posting on fb. I saw Jody Weis on TV last night and although he was carefull in what he said he mentioned the need for more police at least three times. More shoot teens on the front page this morning - this looks terrible for the mayor and we still have about 2 to 3 months of warm weather to go. "Chicago Under Fire" is a good title for the city right now.

  8. I heard weis interviewed too and thought he was sent by Rahm to calm the city down. I'm sure the mayor has had Weis in his office asking for advice. My prediction - Weis will be back. Weis also looks 1000x better in front of a tv camera. He can think and talk at the same time, unlike McCarthy.

  9. O'Donnell? I don't think so. But I do agree the mayor is looking around, and he is looking for someone who looks strong and confident in front of a camera.

  10. Chicago murders story in this morning's Wall Street Journal - you better believe the mayor is looking for a scap goat. who will be next?

  11. Maybe if Rahm would hire more cops. They are undermanned by 1,500 right now. Things would be better. Will Deli Lady O'Connor speak up? hahaha!

  12. J O'D has all of the qualifications. 1. He'll roll over on a p.o. Faster than Chicago weather changes. 2. He's a suck hole and 3. He drinks the company kool-aid by the gallon at the expense of his family. He'll demand you lock everyone up but when the lawsuit comes down he's no where to be found. "lock'em the fuck up!" he'll say and not have a legal reason for doing so. So he'll expect you to use your creative writing to find a reason. Listen up FBI you all are about to get busy locking up CPD if he gets the top spot.

    1. Big Mistake. O'Donnell isn't top leadership material. He doesn't have the disposition for it.

  13. I know exactly how this will play out. Rahm will call a fed friend and bury McCarthy in a high paying gravy management spot in Homeland Security or some such department. Along comes his hand picked by Rahm replacement (and it won't be O'Donnell, I agree). That would be a second big mistake and a career ender for Rahm.

  14. How many people have been murdered on Rahm's watch? How many children shot & murdered? Way to many. Man up, Rahm, admit you screwed up and hire some more cops.

  15. Northside Cease FireJuly 15, 2012 at 10:17 PM

In response to this latest shooting on the northside of Chicago, I have started the "Northside" Ceasefire Organization. Why should the south and westside have all the fun and get the cool million from the mayor?

In the interest of parity and to lessen the disaparities that exist for crime fighting and homicide prevention on the Northside, I will demand equal participation (and equal monetary support of course). I can prevent crime just as well as my west and southside colleages.

More information to come at the joint press conference I will call with the Supt McCarthy and Rahm - I have to find some Northside Reverands to invite, too (post names of any Northside Reverands you may know who like to mug for the cameras).

Have no fear northsiders, me and my boys will take care of you and start hauling in gangbangers from the Northside like you have never seen before, as soon as the city check clears!!

    1. Funny. I've been wondering when we were going to have to implement the "citizens' arrest" on the northside, since there are few cops left - 50% reduction in number of 16th district cops in the last five years. 175 active duty cops, for all three shifts, in the largest district in the city.

    2. I think the local newspaper should sponsor a contest - "when was the last time you saw a cop in the 16th District"?

Do the Deli skills help with solving this violence problem?
