A blog for people who live in the 41st Ward, Chicago, Illinois. The 41st Ward includes Oriole Park, Norwood Park, Edison Park, Wildwood, Edgebrook, Big Oaks and O'Hare communities.
Russ Stewart is an ultra rightwing columnist with a reputation for throwing people under the bus. I'm surprised any elected official in the area talks to him. Mary is always quoted in the Nadig's straight news stories.
Message from a contender:My experience is that the Nadig will quote you on your weakest reply out of 20 answers in order to shape the story the way they want to. I've had experience on this one multiple times. Never the less this was a super bad call by Mary.Mary has made hundreds of other bad calls in the last 2 years and the Irish mob will still give her the nod because of pride.
Can't stand ethnic discrimination. I hope you lose, and I am not Irish.
When is Alderman O'Connor going to say anything about the CPS budget crisis? How many teachers did we lose in the 41st Ward public schools? How come our schools are so overcrowded? When will there be more schools built here including a new high school - and we don't want Charter Schools, btw. We want top notch public education, not politically influenced contracted education. Also, when are we going to get some cops in the 41st Ward? Everyone including the criminals know the cops are on the westside, southside and gold coast. Burglaries are out of control up here. When is Alderman O'Connor going to start acting like she represents the constituents and not the mayor?
Joe Batters for Alderman!
the alderman isn't much of an orator. I went to one aldermatic election forum and saw that after about 2 minutes. The pre-election debates did her more harm than good. She won the election because no one voted, much less listened to her at the debates.
Someone, anyone needs to run in 2015. I might run for the hell of it.
O'Connor is counting on you, NOT voting, to win the next election - the truth.
Hello Everyone,I am going to run for alderman in 2015. I would like to hear more about what residents of the 41st want for the ward. In the next few months, I will be posting my new website and Facebook page. Unlike the current alderman, I have no problem speaking to people or articulating my platform in writing. I'm looking forward to winning the next election.
Attention everyone: This is your beloved mayor Rahm. At ease. Those who dare run against Alderman O'Connor have been duped into believing she has a meager 7 grand in her war chest. My first call to our friends at the Civic Federation will add at least a couple of zeros to her cash reserves. Now, I have decided you should vote for my good friend, Bill Daley, in his challenge of Gov. Quinn. Why? Because he's handsome. And he's very bright. You know, like his brother. Finally, I'm happy to announce I will subtract fifty bucks from those speeders caught by my nifty new cameras. All you have to do is be photographed with your middle finger up your nose, as is my habit prior to exiting my limo to shake the hands of lucky citizens. Now get back to work. Your mayor.
Knowing how to handle the media is part of the job. Russ Stewart is no threat and he hasn't thrown anyone under the bus in 40 years. Other local politicians don't seem to have problems handling the media, including Russ Stewart, and they certainly don't send their office staff to deal with him.
The alderman says she has a working relationship with the mayor? And we have no police and the schools are busting at the seems, teachers fired? Sounds like a dysfunctional relationship to me.

The paper did a good job with writing about the history of the alderman's office.
Now is the time to start encouraging people to run for alderman. I don't agree with the article - O'Connor will not be re-elected. SHe doesn't represent anyone's interest in the ward except her own. The CTU has plans for placing one of their brightest in the ring (who happens to be wed to a very popular cop). This will be interesting.
Great, a teacher married to a copper. No chance of pension reform with that combo unless they have a business on the side for the last 20-30 years.
I would vote for the teacher in a heartbeat
Teacher has my vote!
We need less alderman on city council and lets start by eliminating this one.
What's the point of having her speak? Whenshe does it's just misleading information.Recall thw traffic camera issues when she stated publicly she wouldn't endorse the program and then weeks later voted in favor of it.When ask about it at a community meeting she stood like a deer in the headlight as her cronies stated that a public forum wasn't the place to dicuss it.When having ward meeting at her office she refuses to speak to any groups. Will only talk to individuals behind closed doors so that comments can't be open to scrutiny.Yes I'll be voting !!
But the Irish in Edgebrook, Edison Park, and Norwood Park love her. Sorta like the AA's love Jessie Jackson even though he's going to jail.
Rahm is the problem, O'Connor and the 50 thieves are mere puppets. We don't need 50 aldermen and we certainly don't need this one (O'Connor). Time to cut the city council in half and establish term limits. We desperately need a new Mayor.
